My girlfriend is looking at a 2008 VW Rabbit 2.5L 6-Speed TipTronic. The car has 36,000 miles and we are test driving it tomorrow night.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any problems with the 2.5L motor or the TipTronic (it's not for me and she doesn't want a manual, so I don't want anyone saying just because it's an automatic it sucks) trans. in it. Any electrical bugs that weren't worked out by 2008? I know 2006 was a rough year for the passat but they got most of that figured out by 2007+.

Anyone with real advice or experience with the 2.5L I5 that would be great.

Thanks

I don't think you have much to worry about. My girlfriend has a jetta 2.5 with the tiptronic and it drives just fine. She likes it. Plus, at that year, it's most likely certified pre loved, isn't it? Or is it not at a vdub dealer?

the power band is in the 4500-7k range, it lacks low end torque

my girlfriend picked up a 2007 manual rabbit about a month ago and she loves it . No issues so far, although there is a recall on the coilpacks.

Colipacks I wouldn't worry about since it included many many cars. 2.0T, 1.8T, 2.5.....and many more.

My wife loves her Jetta 2.5 and so far its been rock solid. Its no 2.0T but in the end you really don't need it driving around town. I don't mind driving it either, has plenty of power for "normal" driving.

3.2 as well
hey cody if your still reading this thread, you can buy my brakes and get her bigger brakes for the rabbit with red painted calipers, i have a Porsche big brake kit lined up for my car that uses cayenne front and rear calipers for less the $1500 for all four wheels

Probably had my MKV the longest of anyone on here...bought it new in 2006. Love it, even though I have had some issues.
Some I can remember:

Airbag light (bane of my existence)...covered by warranty all 5 times its been to the dealership.
Coil packs....covered under warranty.
Top mount LED replacement (craziness since the spoiler has to be removed by a body shop and is only on the GTI).....covered under warranty.
Some throttle valve sensor...replaced under warranty.
Fuel line rattle.....fixed under warranty.
Now, with all of this I love my car. Look at it this way we could all be driving Toyotas and be waiting for the car to suddenly go crazy

loccusst i take it you are on GOLFMKV.COM as well?? My rear brakes are nearing the end but there is a kit that uses cayenne S calipers for braking and a viper or jag parking caliper and for the front you use 18zL front calipers from a cayenne with MB gl450 rotors, hub-rings, and lines

I have 97,000miles on my 2.5l I love it just enough pep get a k&n filter for a quick $45 zing mine is stick so can't tell you about the tranny my friend had a 06 jetta 2.5 with tiptronic and now the cc same tiptronic no issues all around solid engine fairly ez being a German car to work you it we do the 130mph governor getting up to 115 isn't a problem the extra 15 takes a mile or so .... I will be honest I would take the 2.5 over the 2.0 anyway two main reasons one) I don't wanna repair the turbo when it blows 2) timing chain baby! If anymore ?? Just pm me I know my car inside I am the only to do the repairs :tu:
