Car of the month??? [Archive] - Projekt German Forums

Hey guys -

So we just started something new at Eurowerks and I wanted to bring it to PKG also! I think it will be really cool for members to vote on/nominate a "car of the month" from a PKG member!

We can do this in several different ways. 1.) Either everyone can nominate and vote on a car of their choice and whichever car has the most votes will win for the month... 2.) The admins can pick 3-5 cars for the month and post up for all of the members to vote on! This is personally my favorite method - we are doing option 1 on Eurowerks.

Each month the winner can have a picture of their car posted on the opening page and possibly a quick photo shoot for everyone to enjoy.

What do you guys think?

Definitely a cool concept. I've seen it used on several other forums. I think its something we could make work if people are interested in it. :tu:

I would vote, as long as I can see all the cars before hand (pictures at least). ;)

Usually what sites do is get a list of cars (either submitted by members or chosen by a staff), then they start a thread with pictures of each of the cars and a mods list. Members then view each of the cars and vote in a poll. This process worked very well with the last car forum I helped build. :tu:

More members might be a necessity but I was actually thinking about this the other day. It goes over really well on some of the other forums I am on that have large member numbers. We could try it.....

I think it would have to be between 2-3 cars MAX per month or maybe quarter right now with our numbers. There are really only about 20-30 active members on here these days. We don't see much of the others who have registered.

I would say 3 members.

We are growing quite fast... I do agree that it would help to have more, but we are getting new members pretty consistently!

I like your format idea, Mike. I think we should have one week of nomination (the third week of the month) and the last week of the month will be voting for the following months car!
For example: We can have a May Car of the Month Nomination Thread and members can post up their nominations (or vote if their choice has alreeady been nominated) from April 16- 22. Once we have 3 cars chosen, voting can run from April 23-30 and the winner will be decided on the first of the month.

And to make it even easier, I say people just nominate themselves. That way it has the potential to get more people posting instead of just the regulars being nominated.

Here's my take:
I (or someone) could organize the ROTM (Ride of the Month), take the first 3-4 submissions by e-mail and then start a voting thread with a time limit. People will vote on the candidates and at the end of the time limit the winner will be announced. They can get their photo on the main page or on the site intro and we can do a short Q&A with the winner. This has worked pretty well on other sites I've been a part of. :tu:

heres what i think....

mike i like ur ideas, but maybe we can have their pic on the summary page and maybe even a ROTM tab.... i would say put it on the main page like intro but i think that picture needs to be more group oriented(like it is now) or somethin badass and creative like it was before... another thing to think about(this is kinda out there) we could do like other cars like the lotus elise or f430 or like rally cars or scca cars or something until we get enough members and then switch it over. i dunno i was just thinkin bout that...

anyway thats my .02

I think the best thing will be to start taking submissions on May 1st for the June ROTM. That way we can get all the submissions in and get the voting done so the June ROTM winner can revel in all of their glory for the entire month. :D

BTW, Mike, when someone wins ROTM, can they win it again or are they DQ'd to give other members a chance? Say maybe once someone wins it, they can't win it again for at least another year? Just my .02.

On the subject of getting older members to check us out again:

Compared to how busy the tex is, when i joined at first this site was slow so even though i joined, posted a few times, i lost interest like most of the other 100+ members that joined, and then quit coming here.
Not saying that to be a dick, just being honest.

Mike sent me an email after i hadn't been around in a few months, then it really sparked my interest to see that the site was alot busier (and it was only a few months ago)

Now that we have alot more members, and alot busier, not to mention being featured in eurotuner :eek:, I think people will come back and we'll have greater #'s at GTG's, they just need an invite!

These days I'm on here multiple times a day every day... I'm here more than the tex I'm proud to say.

SirRange: I think what you proposed would be the best situation. In order to give other members a chance at winning, I think a ROTM winner would not be elligible to win again for a year.

We haven't even started taking submissions yet, lol. :laugh: I think this projekt kind of got put on the back burner with the last couple of recent GTGs and the rally coming up. We'll get this thing going though, don't worry.

The staff has several things planned and in the works and a Ride of the Month contest is one of them. It's just taking us some time to get everything together. I will rejoice at the day I am able to quit my day job and work for PKG full time. :D

Just read back on this a bit and it was a bit nostalgic :). People referring others to their sn's and not Jeremy, Casey, Jake, etc. lol

I agree that this can definitely work. "Car of the Season" or quarter may be a bit easier though?

Yeah it's hard to believe it was that long ago already. I couldn't believe it when I looked up the thread. Could've sworn I bumped it up more recently. Oh well.
