Hey Guys, I was wondering if you can go to any auto parts store like autozone or advanced and get a code diagnostics tool and clear codes. I tried it before but the scanner wouldn't connect to my car?? Do I need a vagcom or is the port messed up. I have a 1999 Mk3 Jetta. Thanks

Yes they can scan your car, since it is OBDII.

Where did you try to get it scanned first?

The OBDII port on mkIII's is in the middle of the dash... 99% of auto parts salesmen do not know where it is. I work at Advance Auto Parts in Cedar Falls and had some fun letting other co-workers try to find the OBDII port on a mkIII before I showed them where it is ;).

I got it scanned at Advanced where Alek worked but it didnt work and I used the port in the middle of the dash.

Then I went to another advanced in des moines but they couldn't connect to it either.

Seems as if something is wrong with my port.

Doesn't after market radios sometimes screw it up.

Possible that you blew the fuse for the OBD-II port. A lot of the time the fuse for it is wired in with a cigar lighter or power outlet and people short them out and pop the fuse. I actually see this a lot at work.

Aftermarket radio fur shizzle their is a blue wire that goes comes out of the aftermarket radio adapter plugging into your car and comes right back into the same connector it needs to be cut. I would wager some cash as to that being the problem unless of course you dont have an aftermarket head unit

I've never been able to sacn our tt either and Rosstech gave me some info to try and it was related to the radio. Since it is still under warranty certitified I let them mess with it.

I wish I could remember what they wanted me to check but it seems as though some of the OEM units have issues too?
