Mk3 needs to be VAG-COM'd. Noticed some slight issues over the past couple days. Car feels a bit sluggish and feels like it has a rev limiter on at 4K RPMs. If I mash the pedal and run at WOT, it just sits there and holds and then start flashing the engine light at me for awhile, lol.

I just replaced my ignition coil. I'm thinking maybe plugs? Might pull them out today and check them.

Can you get on AIM? I think it might actually be the cat. I've been hearing stuff rattle around down there.

Also, the code, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1), isn't that what we were seeing. Everybody is saying that means a dead cat.

Still working on this. Had to take the day off of work. I'm going to replace the fuel and air filter today as well as clean the MAF and TB. I'm just hoping I can figure something out without having to replace the cat and O2 sensors...

The car lives!!!!!!

It ended up being the catalytic converter. When I got the thing unbolted and dropped it on to the floor a bunch of the insides fell out. I pounded the crap out of it and now its completely hollow. Bolted in back on and the car runs better than ever. It really feels kind of "fast" now...lol.

All in all I ended up replacing a lot of things in this episode of repairs:
-spark plugs
-spark plug wires
-distributor cap
-ignition rotor
-air filter
-fuel filter
-several gaskets
-hollowed cat

I ended up spending around $150-170 on everything, but I'd been meaning to do a good spring tune-up anyways. The car drives like a dream. :tu:

Now I'm ready for the Albert Lea GTG next weekend on the 21st! :D

Great to hear that you got her running hard again w/o spending too much on more than maintenence items. Hopefully all high quality OE replacement parts.

I can't count how many times I've replaced/gutted cats here. Save the cores or innards if possible. I have a guy stop in time and again that pays good coin for them...

I bought the plugs/wires/cap/rotor from German Auto Parts (who stocks OE items) and the two filters are Purolators from Advance (found out Purolator is a joint venture between Bosch and somebody else so I figure they must be decent).

Not sure what you mean by saving the innards of the cat. I had to bust up everything inside to get it all out. Right now its all sitting in a pile on the floor of my garage. I'm just glad I didn't need to put a new cat in. :tu:

It does have value no matter what condition it is in. Place in suitable container and bring to me next time you visit W'loo

Wonder why? Must be the gutted cat. We need to find out what the resistance is for the O2 sensor and just bypass it so the car thinks everything is ok.
