So I picked up a Mountain Green 80' 2dr Rabbit diesel 4spd today, it is in decent shape. My goal is to get it running and driving decent for my new daily, and seel my mk2 diesel Jetta.
The guy I got it from used an end loader to push it around and totally f'ed up the front bumper and radiator support. I am not concerned about the bumper as I will be custom building one.
What I am looking for is someplace local I can buy a radiator support, I am looking to go with round headlights, it is currently an early westy square front.
Anyone know of somewhere in the DSM area to get body panels for a mk1?
I will post pics after I pick it up next week.

Sunset Beach had a German Rabbit a while back but I don't know if they have it now. I will try and stop there tomorrow afternoon and see if it's there. The only one at WNG is US built, and no cabbys right now either.
You know that early Westy front end is a rare bird also, might be a shame to trash that setup. BTW, was this the one listed on CL a while back...guy said he didn't have a title?

yep, that is the one. he had a junk certificate, which I will use to get a bonded title, I was able to talk him down on price. The front and rear lower valances are toast from him using a loader tractor to move the car around. I will save the westy grille setup if it is in decent shape, but the suport will have to be changed for sure.

The car Sunset had was a German car, a yellow Rabbit. It was there about was there a year ago but might be gone now. I saw that green Rabbit on CL and wondered about it. IIRC the engine bay on that 80 Rabbit was pretty messy too.
At any rate, I'll swing by Sunset Beach on my way home today at 12:30 and see if the German Rabbit is still around.
We need to talk about quantum td stuff too.

The engine bay is dirty, but the only thing missing is the top of the injection pump. When I get it home I will do all my regular checks to determine the state of the 1.5l diesel to see if it can be saved.

The car at Sunset Beach is sort of ho hum. It's a 79 Rabbit, prolly was a nice car but the windshield was punched in so the whole interior has been contaminated. The rad support is ok, lower front valance portion is rotted in the middle. Supposedly the 1.5 in it is or was "ok" at one point but who knows. The story is that the motor ran well until someone took something off of it. Who knows...timing belt is off / cut / broke. Someone removed the crank pulley for some reason.
Anyway, the price is $125 you cut (can cut in front or behind strut towers, $150 they cut. Everything comes except coolers (what they said) so what you actually get is unknown. Anyway, you now know what I know.
I did notice top of rad support right side has an depression of some type, not really a dent but it isn't true like it ought to be. Car is rusty.
