Hey I don't think this is the right area to post but why not. I'm wondering if the U.S. is allowing some form or Euro plates? I saw a mini in my area with one it said U.S on it and the mini had no other form of a plate (in window or on front). Just wondering if legal and where do i get in line for one!

from what i know in iowa euro plates are considered novelty plates and will not pass as state issued plates other states have only back plate laws so you can get away with just a back plate and a front euro plate someone feel free to correct me if im wrong got this info to talking to my dad and his cop friends

I believe the laws are the same in Indiana which is why im confused, he only had the Euro plate. There was no front plate or anything this was mounted where the normal license plate would go.

In indiana, wouldn't you be able to run a front euro plate with no problem.(since they don't require front plates, unless I'm mistaken) I have a hard time believing they'd let you fun a rear euro plate. But hey, why not ask, it'd be pretty sweet if you could.

in Iowa (according to the unnoficial dmv for all states) it is illegal to not have front plate unless you come from a state that doesnt require one. when i lived in Mississippi, is optional to have it. you can put a euro plate on as long as you have the government issued somewhere not inside the car. i remember seeing a mercedes with a euro plate with the iowa tag printed on it and had his license plate numbers printed on it as the design. here in des moines the local cops dont care (right now im driving it with no tags) but state troopers dont like it and oh be careful with the commercial vehicle cop, just because they are cops only for commercial cars, they stop ya too!

My understanding is that you can get a special Euro-size plate for some classic cars. There's a silver 1962 Jag XKE around town which has the classic plates. I'm not sure on the details.

If your state requires you to have two plates, you need two plates on your car or have chance of getting roped by the police. There are those special cases like euro delivery where you can ride with europe plates for a little while.

I remember something way back on PKG about DSV (Mike) looking into it and found that running an illigegitimate front plate was illegal, euro or not. Not that most cops would know that.
I live in IA and ran a euro front plate for 1.5 years in place of my IA front plate and didn't get hassled once. That was luck though. You get a lot of funny questions "where are you FROM?" "what is that license plate" :D

i've been runing my current europlate with no issues, i have the same tag on my euro plate that my state issued plate does. technically its still illegal but they don't hassle me with it. its usually only state troopers that will make a fuss over it.
don't care even if they do, i'm not taking it off now since its become a permanent part of the bumper

:tu: I just recieved my new europlate, and it also matches my state issued plates after hearing the luck you have with yours. Hope I don't get harassed after I get it on.. which I have to remove the bumper so that'll wait a few weeks for now, haha.

I never thought it was legal. It's one of those issues where most police/patrol don't care or notice. I say do it anyway. It's classy :)

I agree, I have DARK tinted windows, tinted tail lights, and out of state expired plates . . . been pulled over for speeding here in des moins county and only received a 10 over ticket . . . Lived here for damn near 9 months now.
Go figure.
