View Full Version : Which wheels?

Okay, I have my choice down to three...

(1) 17x8 Audi "Pie Plates"

I already have these wheels but they are not looking so hot. I bought a set of 5 for $500 shipped...one wheel is cracked and apparently was the "spare" but according to the previous owner held air. One other wheel I put on to see if it would fit was wobbbbbbbly. The guy is being great about it and giving me all my money back but $50 (in other words, a set of wheels for $50!) So I can take the money I get back and repair/refinish them and have a set that is better than new. Here is a picture of the wheels (not the exact set I have, but you get the idea):

(2) 17x8 Audi "Fat 5's"

I found a set (finally) reasonably priced but I'm not sure if I want to go down the same road and risk getting a set of used rims that are not what they're cracked up to be. I'm trying to get the guy to be able to give a refund if they are not what he says they are, regardless of how many pictures he takes. Here's how they look on a B5.5 Passat:

(3) 17x8 Flik Hornets black w/ machined lip w/ Falken tires

I can purchase a brand new set of Hornets along with Falkens mounted and balanced for a little over $700. I think they'd look good on my car since it's black with chrome trim. Here's a pic of the wheel:

and on a B5 Passat:

Um...my car is BLACK! If you're referring to the first 2 pics, that's NOT my car. =) (Well, none of the pics above feature my car, they're used as examples of what the wheels would look like on my car.)

Hornets with different center caps, I'm not a fan of the little bit of red they have in them.

i would go with #1.. if they were like 19's hell yeah to the black ones! but little wheels on a bigger bodied car need to be a lighter color. A polished lip makes em look even smaller. Thats just my two cents. Do whatever YOU like

I say the 5's. I have never been a fan of Flik's, although at the price they are almost disposable, from what I hear the quality might be a little less than ideal...

All Passats are 5x112.

Wow...it's a close one between the Fat 5's and the Hornets...no one likes the Pie Plates? I think it's a sweet looking rim for OEM.

Think they are the five's from the A6, not the TT.

Fat fives are the best looking OEM wheel, period. Definitely do those if you have a set lined up already!

I'm not a fan of the black wheels. 5's

You might be able to have my Madras that came with the W8 (Sport).

I just went three rounds with VW warranty. They need to be refinished since BBS clear coat couldn't hold up.

I don't think the flik's would look good on a Passat. Definately the 5's. Fat 5's look awesome on gti's, but pretty sure they would look good on just about anything. If you did go with the black fliks, then you would have to go with the whole blacked out look to make it flow well IMO. But if that's a route your willing to take... I think that would be pretty sweet.:beerglass:

I'm starting to think that I'm going to stick with the Pie Plates. The wheels are hard to find and they give a nice euro look. Plus I just got most of my money back for them to refinsh them, so I just picked up 5 wheels for $50 and will have better-than-new rims when I'm done with them!

Thanks for the input and votes so far.

Everyone on the tex and their mom has fat 5's, they're too played out in my opinion.

Pie plates = Rare. :tu:

Think of some powdercoating ideas, you are getting them refinished. Black accents.....
