I ended up selling my e36 a couple weeks ago. I picked up this Passat that was in a light front hit.

1998 Passat Wagon
1.8T
5 Speed

Pretty standard machine and family hauler.

How it looked when I picked it up...

Here as it sits now with a NAMotorsports badgeless grill. I satin blacked the bumper until LisasGLI can get to painting the passenger fender and bumper.

Needs a new driver's headlight and the lower grills yet.

Got some H&Rs in the mail yesterday. Waiting on the bilsteins. Also got a Pioneer DEH-P6700MP too yesterday. I'm looking for some wheels as I am posting this.

Looks great Chad! Does it need a new driver's side headlight for sure or is it just hazy (looks that way in the pic)? I know I probably rave about the stuff, but the 3M Headlight Restoration kit works wonders.

I can't wait to see the progress on the variant! :tu:

Yes, it needs a new light. It has a broken tab and another one that's pretty mangled up.

I think i have a pair of headlights from my old passat in the garage if you are ever in waterloo you can have them. They have a lot of haze on them but nothing a buffer cant fix.

Bad day all around. I can't get the upper control arm pinch bolt out at all. It barely spins in the housing. I got sick of messing with it so I put it all back together.

Also the guy with the wheels flaked out and said he's not available tomorrow. Sucks! Dunno when I'll be able to go and pick up wheels now.

I've been soaking the pinch bolt in PB every day this week. Hopefully it loosens up.

I have the passenger lower door trims on the way today, hubcaps for steelies are on the way and I am picking up these wheels Sunday.

Nothing yet. Maybe chip, exhaust, and DV.

Here they are installed. Probably will stay this way until spring, besides maybe tint and my 05 rabbit hubcaps that are coming tomorrow.

Been awhile since posting on this machine. I swiss cheesed the air box. Added a Uhaul hitch to haul my four wheeler. Added 05 Rabbit hubcaps. Just did the ultimate timing belt kit last weekend.

I sold my Benz wheels and picked up some A4 B7 split 5s today.

http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb38/iadubber/Passat/IMG_6174.jpg

Probably pick up some 8/10mm spacers in the next few weeks.

Going to be tinted in the next couple weeks when Anthony comes up.

Needs axles done too. Then I'll be looking for a solder APR chip.

Those wheels will look sick! Can't wait to see it around town...you should bring it to a GTG where we snag some pictures. Those spacers should make it look nice and flush too..what's the offset?

Your car needs a soldered ECU? I thought all 1.8T's were just a reflash :hmm: You'll really like it though (I'm sure you already know) it just brings the car to life for sure.

I'm pretty sure my 98 is a solder in chip. I haven't done enough research on it yet. It'll be a few months before that happens. I have to make sure I have enough saved for a DV, N75, and a clutch after it's chipped. :) Offset is 45 on a 7.5" wheel. I'll have to mount them to see what size I'll for sure need. It could be bigger than 10mm. Maybe 12-15.

I have et35 wheels that are 8" wide and a 5mm spacer keeps me barely away from the inner lip, so if you wanna sit flush I'd say a 10mm on 8" wheels would be perfect, not so sure on the 7.5" though on et45 wheels

The only thing I probably would change is the "chrome" ring around the center cap. They kind of take attention away from the rest of the look of the wheels/car, especially since you have no other chrome trim on the car to flow with it. My .02.

update on this. Was going to sell, but decided to keep it. It's been neglected for some time now.

Installed VDO boost gauge with NewSouth column pod
Ordered new door lock mechanism to get the outside door handle working
Have to install: new sunroof motor, new A/C Lines, amber corners, new cruise module

APR ecu to be delivered today

Control arm kit ordering next week on payday

Raceland coilovers in spring

And drive the shit out of it.

might i suggest the 034 control arms. They are pretty competitively priced and come with a year warranty. GOAPR

Well the nickels and dimes still don't add up to a car payment and full coverage. I was just pissed after putting the clutch in, tires, and a few maintenance things a few weeks ago that the exhaust blew out. The 2.5" that Roni did woke the car up ten fold. And it sounds sick. The rokkors should make me feel better too since the struts are shot in the rear. If I'm going to live with riding like shit I'm going to be low doing it.

Yes. It's not much of a difference dropwise from the H&Rs. It ended up about another 1" or so. it's at least fun to drive now.
