I can understand while you are getting rid of the hood....doesn't run with the car very well. I kinda like the part black part orange paint job idea...throw up a bunch of options and I am sure we can figure something out.

It'd be the rolling Cream Saver. mmmm, cream savers. (awesome life savers candy)
orangedub -- I can't see the pics cause I'm at work, but have you thought of painting part of the CF hood? I've seen Audi's with the middle part of their hood painted the color of the car then the outsides still in CF, I like it a lot.

The only reason I don't really want to do the 2-tone: added cost, and it takes away from the boser hood. I'm thinking while my car is at my buddy's garage getting this done, black roof :)
jetavr1, ask your boss what he would want for it! I need parts people lets make this happen for real!
and the creamsaver thing i actually have thought about ALOT- but incorporating that into the interior

Thanks, what's got me about the creme interior is like the inside of an orange, plus my license plate is "ORGPEEL" but blacking out the interior is alot easier cause it would only be the pillars & up.
Also I was thinking later on I will put a old-school box of o.j. on my gas door and have it say in small lettering "orange juice":knockout:
Well guys I'm off the the dells, have a good weekend!!:finger: :)

Yep I bought it in Dubuque from Ben. He's re-painting the fender on my kitted mitsubishi diamante and then that car's going up for sale in cedar rapids (see it at the corner at best buy in a week or two.)
I like your subaru, I have 3 as well
My plan is to go with just the gti and a motorcycle this summer, selling the other two. I bet my neighbors at my apt hate me for taking their spots!
I hope you have good luck with your jti buildup, it would not be too difficult finding another reflex silver jetta to swap with. :tu:

***A little update***
Okay, I get to check "jetta bumper" off my "parts needed" list :D
Just got a black lightly used OEM one off of ebay for $95 shipped!
It is missing the rubstrip though. I'll have to figure out if I want a textured black euro rubstrip, or keep the shaved look.
Also, I've decided not to mold the lower valence. I've just discovered that I can get a european 25th anniversary lip that is identical to the 337/20th lip like on anthony's car, but it will fit right up to a OEM european bumper or a (mine) NA jetta. I like the idea of being able to switch my valence if I wish.
......... opinions?

Practice housings. I have a beter set with nice clean lenses that will actually be used for the final product, and the passat part will be black and won't have that chipped off corner:

Test fit the rear after i got hold of some of the hardware to do so: (thanks Kleiner!)
For those that don't know, i wil be getting stretched tires for the rears and rolling & pulling the rear fenders as well (Kinda like wide-body but you don't add fender arches)

Casey - you should look into an aggressive street alignment.
You will have more negative camber and it will help tuck the top of the tire under the wheel well a bit more.
Plus, the car will handle A LOT better. One of the best things I ever did with my A4!

I am getting Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 for the rears, in 265/35/18 or 265/30/18.
Those are the same that are on the front. The rears that are currently on are not stretched, that's why they need to be replaced. Stretching will help to prevent from rubbing because the pulled fenders will slightly match the angle of the stretched-ness so they will tuck better and should rub *less* :)
I will look into camber and if that will give me any more clearance with how much poke I will have... Thanks for the tip!
Thanks Damir I will need some help and if you wanna get your mits dirty with me, you're more than welcome!

Cool! you know, I was messing around with mine, and I think I'm going to have to use the passat housing on the rear part to kep the ability to aim them, because the beam pattern will suck balls the way they are set up with the passat part just crammed into the jetta housing.

So..... today when me and my buddy went to install my headers and high flow cat, I noticed that my motor was sitting a little weird.
Turns out that my passenger side motor mount had loosened up because where the bolts go into the cast iron bottom end had came out of the block and stripped out the block because it was sitting about 2" lower than usual and was leaning forward against the radiator :(
Looks like I will have quite a bit this spring more work than pulling the front clip off and bolting on the front end. Luckily my friend has a lot of tools at his disposal and he crafted/welded me a custom motor mount that used 3 mounting points on the rear of the motor, so I got it home fine and will figure out a game plan from here. I'm really bummed about this one guys :( :( :( :(

The only problem is that re-tapping the holes will only fix part of the problem. Out of the 3 bolt holes used to attach the motor mount, there are 2 above and below each other, and a 3rd hole which is the forward-most one. On the 3rd one, it broke part of the block because it was on a corner. So the 2 can be re-tapped but because of the rotating action of a horizontally mounted motor, those other 2 bolts just worked themselves loose over time, so it would eventually happen again over time if the holes were just re-tapped. Maybe I should just put in a built 24v :D

Okay well we did look around a bit but it was questionable aabout where and how far we could go into the block it we wanted to tap some new mounting holes. The front mounting point broke off the block because it was on the corner, and then the other 2 holes in the block just stripped out from not having the 3rd bolt attached.

Uploaded a video of my new exhaust setup. It's stock to the rear axle, then a straight pipe with dual tips was welded in place of my muffler. I'll still be installing the headers and high-flow cat, and may change the resonator out for a different one.

Wow that's awesome, Bildon is a great company and are doing tons of research on the 12v VR6! Have you read up on their thread to make 275 hp with a 12v VR6 and keeping it N/A? I can link you to it if you're interested.
Okay, I took these pics last weekend but just got around to posting them.
Stripped the headliner of the water-spotted & ruined grey cloth:

Stripped off all the ()^(&*%#*(^%*& foam, which SUCKED, but my rotary DA got it done a lot quicker for me ;)

How come you didn't bump the cylinder size to anything more than 2.9L Tyler?
Black86gti
02-24-2008, 02:56 PM
cost per hp on a 2.9L is cheaper than going with 3.0L or 3.1L. I have a full european ABV 2.9L intake manifold upper and lower and throttle body. matched with abv 2.9L pistons and with stock cams and software your at 190 hp vs the AAA 174hp add cams and a chip and ill be pushing the 200hp mark. then you can alwasy add boost ;). the only reason i needed pistons is to get my piston to cyl wall clearance to ware it should be other wise i wouldnt be waiting for stupid pistons

02-24-2008, 04:16 PM
Well it looks like you've figured out where you're going and sticking to it. I know this isn't the first time you've built up a VR6 though either. I find it hard to imagine not having a VR6 in some form or another... ;)
I won't need that VR block to replace mine after all... I'm going to do something else to fab up a better-than-stock motor mount to replace the damaged goods.
Hey I was reading in a thread about someone suggesting a mk4 with cams installed would be better off using a mk3 intake manifold that does not have the variable intake shifter-rod (vaccuum-controlled... if you're unfamiliar (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1976181)). After reading about the shifter rod assembly it is better to leave alone, but that does not exactly suggest that transplanting an intake manifold from the earlier generation would be better or worse... Any thoughts on that?
Black86gti
02-25-2008, 12:21 AM
yea theres a big thing about the MKIII cams vs MKIV. all cam shaft makers grind vr6 cams to use camshaft runner compensation. the MKIV with the plastic intakes use intake compenstation for the two cyl banks. it really comes down to the fact MKIV's need differnt cams due to the intake manifold design. a company has already released a set of these cams.
ive thought about picking up a MKIV intake manifold because they are similar to the aftermarket shrick intakes but a fraction of the cost. ill see what my euro 2.9L intake does and go from their

Not sure yet Jordan, the rears are down to the wear bars but the fronts have more than a season left. They are ultra high performance all-season continental's. On my car they shake a little over 70mph and being properly balanced twice and with a proper alignment, I've determined the slight vibration is due to my 160k shot suspension. One more reason to slam it :p
I'm sure you realized that they are multi-pattern 5x100 & mitsu 5x114.3 ;)
We'll discuss what happens with them after I get them off the car if you or someone else you know would be interested. They're in pretty good shape. No curb rash whatsoever!

From the sound of it, I'd hold off on spending roughly $1k on your 12v head until bildon makes any breakthroughs with their 275whp quest which is ultimately getting past that exact issue of poor head flow.

Yes, running a staggered setup to get that aggressive stance however is pretty common in the mk4 community (yes it's an odd group of people)
