So I'm BS'ing with my co-workers and the topic 'locking keys in your car' came up and I told them about the tennis ball trick. I totally got 1-up'd. A guy here swore by it and it had worked for him. He had a remote key fob that had been locked in his car (no idea how you do that, but anyway) so he called his roommate who was at home with a spare that was also a remote unlock. The roommate was able to hold the key up to his cell phone and hit the unlock button, it transmitted through the cell and actually unlocked his car, miles away.

We tried it during lunch break on one of our cars and sure enough, it worked. One stood inside here and the other went outside to his car (a ways away, mind you), it didn't work at first but as soon as she put it on speaker phone and clicked the button, it unlocked. Neat, huh?

Keep trying it.. it took her 1-2mins of pressing the button/taking on and off speaker phone for it to work. I was standing outside by the car listening to her on speaker and we were about to give up when it unlocked.

This car was an ~'04 Toyota Camry, the other car is an ~'01 Pontiac Grand Prix.

The remotes do use radio frequencies though.....but I don't see how it would work.

lol there arent any radio freq we can hear :p and if it is a radio frequency u could stand outside a radio tower somewhere with ur speaker phone on and the person a ways a way on speaker would be able to listen to the station lol but it would be hard to do that and the sound quality would be ****ty. anyway thats the random thought i had
