WHO'S COMIN WITH ME!!!
www.dubsinthevalley.com/09/
Feeling a little frustrated at the direction that the car show scene has taken in recent years, a group of miss-guided individuals set out to bring back the car show flavors of yester-years... a flavor not so much impressed with how much money you spent on your ride nor how strict the requirements are to participate... but rather on how much fun a gathering of people who share the same hobby could be. Born was the idea of Dubs in the Valley™.
2007 was Dubs In The Valley's™ first year and it was off the chain. The show brought out a great crowd . We learned a few things and had alot of good times in 2007 and 2008.
Needless to say, 2009 holds true to our core beliefs and reasons for having a show, fun, fun and more fun. Still a laid back, chill atmosphere, now, with premier accommodations for the show, and a multitude of lodging choices for participants.
We have coined this year as “The Urban Edition” due to the fact that we will be in an urban setting. Some good information regarding this year, if it rains, we are covered, literally. Held in a three level parking ramp in the middle of downtown Oshkosh, we have a large uncovered outdoor area, if it rains, we move about 60 yards over, bar and all, to the covered part, all on the same level.
Did I mention bar? Oh yeah. One thing to go unchanged is we have tried to accommodate the people who get tired of having to pack up and leave right after the show. Beckets Restaurant, Located directly underneath the show site, has been gracious enough to not only give up the space, but to put the power of smart permitting to use and open a bar for us on the ramp, and, as it was popular last year, we will have DJs and maybe a band or 2. Food is a quick flight of stairs away and if needed, the restaurant will host the after party. Otherwise we are free to stay there, or go and see the sights about downtown Oshkosh.
This years show will be held on Saturday, August 8th, in downtown Oshkosh. Gates open at 10 a.m., show starts at noon and all cars must be in place by 2 p.m. in order to be judged. Click here for direction to the facility where the show will be held.
For information about the city of Oshkosh, please visit www.visitoshkosh.com. Lots of info for the city here, things to do and a list of hotels, etc.
Places to stay:
UWOSH
For the folks who want a bed indoors, within sight of the show grounds, we've worked a deal with the university to use one of their dorms. Rooms are 35 bucks a night. Their page has all the info you need and we have a block of 70 reserved. You just need to call and let them know you are coming for Dubs In the Valley.
The benefit of staying here is, you can comfortably walk here from the show grounds. The show area will be locked up overnight and you can leave your car there for the night. There will be somebody posted to watch over the venue over night to ensure the safety of your stuff. We did it this way since there will be a party afterwards, ;) as Chris from Becket's has offered to host it. I would rather the weekend stayed fun and safe with no accidents or nasty tickets, just fond "holy Crap! Remember that moments.
We recommend getting these reserved asap as there will be more if we need them, we just don't know how many.
Camping:
Camping will be at Sleepy Hollow again this year, except it will be in the area the show was so you can tent in the shade giving you a much more pleasurable experience in the early morning sun.
Oshkosh Area Humane Society
This year, we are proud to announce that a portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society. The mission of the Oshkosh Area Humane Society is to inspire responsible pet ownership and kindness towards all living things. We safeguard, rescue, adopt, and advocate for animals in need while promoting the human animal bond.
OAHS serves the Oshkosh area and surrounding community. We are pleased to have had visitors and adopters come from all over the state of Wisconsin and even outside the state to see our facility and to visit with the pets looking for homes. OAHS never turns an animal in need way and does not have a time limit on the stay of a companion animal. Many times OAHS goes the extra mile for pets coming to us, especially older pets or those with behavioral issues and medical needs.
OAHS has several programs to aid in the adoption and care of animals. The Home at Last Program provides sponsorship for cats over the age of three years old. The Best Friends Program provides sponsorship for dogs that, for whatever reason, may have been overlooked by prospective adopters. There is the Cuddles Fund to provide for medical treatments that go beyond traditional health care. Last year, through the S.N.I.P (Spay/Neuter In-house Program), OAHS arranged for the spaying and neutering of 625 animals: 578 of those surgeries were done right at OAHS thanks to several different veterinarians volunteering their skills. (OAHS pays for everything else such as anesthesia, surgical packs and additional staff to monitor the animals before and after surgery.)
Through the Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Center, OAHS offers to provide housing for the pets of families in crisis. OAHS also serves as a member of the Coordinated Community Response (CCR) Team along with other local agencies such as law enforcement, social services, counseling servicesma and the Winnebago DA's office.
OAHS provides multiple educational programs to area schools and Scout Troops. Last year more than 30 programs were presented and and equal number of tours were provided for young children. (An estimated 2500 children were part of our educational services last year.)
Less than 11% of OAHS $700,000 operating costs come from service contracts. OAHS relies heavily on private donations, memberships, sponsorships and fundraisers to continue to provide the above services and more to our community..
Again, thank you for caring about the animals. We truly appreciate your support.
