View Full Version : Tinting my taillights?

So I'm thinking about tinting them but not really sure how it'd look with my color/scheme of the car right now. I used spray tint on my old Eclipse and I thought it turned out great, I'd be using the same technique. I wouldn't black them out but make them quite a bit darker. Only reason I'm looking into this is because I've got the mod bug but really shouldn't be spending my $ on the car right now... this will cost me < $15. VHT Nite Shades ($10) plus a can of clear coat ($3).
Anyone good at photoshop?

I already installed new headlights/sidemarkers so the ugly amber colors are off the car. Plus tint will come soon so that'll help with the darker scheme.

With my clear front end (headlights/sidemarkers) I'm actually thinking that I won't tint that clear part in the taillights as much. I'll mask that part off, tint the rest, then mask the rest off and tint that clear part just a bit.
Then again, maybe I should wait til I tint the windows. Ack, I need opinions.

I wanna see it first too :( It was easy to do on my Eclipse because I had an extra set of taillights... if they turned out looking like crap I could always throw the other pair on.

i was debating this for quite awhile too. I decided not too and i'm glad i didn't...
The B5's I've seen with tinted tails also seem to appear pretty rough. Even with several cans of clear coat - the tint never looks smooth enough.
IMO I would keep it stock and just debadge and paint match the lower valence.... keep it simple.

thats why im havin a guy do mine, ive seen his work it looks excellent
www.empiregfx.com does some really cool overlays. the guy who runs it is on Vortex. i'd have to see a few chops to give an opinion on how it looks. plus the thing that sucks is that if you don't like it, you're screwed, lol
i might try to chop something up for ya. :tu:
eh, i'm not so much a fan of the tinted tails on your car. just doesn't look right for some reason. i do like the badges being shaved though. i also shaved off the sidemarker on the fender. ;) :tu:

Thanks for the photoshops... btw I've already debadged :)
I decided I'm gonna get wheels/tint first (wheels will either be gunmetal or black) then get the '00 updated tails (basically the same, except the clear part is lower). I'll tint these taillights and if I don't like it, just put the other set on.

I think it will look good after you get your windows tinted.

Marcus, you ought to try tinting your busted taillight. That would be a good test subject. :tu:

you, my friend, are a genius!
Plus, if you don't like the tailight tinted, we can still set it on fire and smash it afterwards. :D

Hmmm.. that's the kinda look I'm going for. I'm just a bit darker blue than that also..

If you can do them dark like that Mk4 I think it would look really slick. Those decals from jonstailtints or wherever looked really good on that silver Audi up above.
