I deleted the AWE gauge installed thread, just because I got a few other things installed too :D

First, the boost gauge before:

After:

And now the headlights/grille/sidemarkers before:

After:

I also installed Osram H7 Silverstars in there... the highs are VERY bright, hard to tell about the low beam because it's still light outside. I'll be adjusting them tonight once it gets dark.

just got mine in today... i broke a piece of the vent though... hahah nothing glue cant fix.... dang that will depreciate the value of my gauge.... haha maybe i'll just sell the whole vent ;). hey are you getting any buzzing sound from your gauge? i am... but i think its because im chipped and have higher boost levels then u. anyway... i got my snub mount in too... what did you ever do with yours? mine fit good... took some pounding to get it to go in place... after that it was great. i dont undersand how yours needed to be shaved....

iowaboostin
03-14-2007, 08:45 PM
Yeah I get a buzzing from the gauge...I actually think it might be the washers on that bracket holding it in the vent. Those screws never stayed tight..

I've heard that for some reason the snub mount "bracket/holder" on the tiptronics are smaller and the mount would vibrate more. Hence why it'd have to be "shaved" down

my gauge buzzs... there are different T-fittings and such that are supposed to eliminate that but apparently it makes the gauge less accurate.

do you guys have a fuel filter inline with the gauge? i have one but its on backwards.. im going to try to reverse it and see what happens... hope i dont break anything.

How come you're running an inline filter on a boost gauge? Definitely not needed, that that bish off.

Actually adding a small fuel filter to a boost line smoothes out the vac and boost readings fewer jitters and increased accuracy...I dont know if it is necessary on the gauge but it is SOP when installing a MAP sensor for a standalone on a boosted car.

I got a filter with mine also - it was primarily to reduce the buzz from the gauge, but it didn't really help. It still buzzed and the gauge was slower and didn't not read quite as accurately. So I took it out.

I've never heard that before, never had a buzzing/jittering problem with any other boost gauge I've installed, nor heard of a single DSMer using an inline filter on the gauge to smooth it out, odd.

If it's the same buzzing I'm getting then it's coming not too far back from the vent, making me think it's that clamp holding the gauge to the vent.

the buzzin is from the gauge... my clamps are on pretty tight. I think most people on AZ is doing this.... I will tell you how it goes after i reverse my filter. Also John, how much boost are you getting? mine is around 17.

Like I said not primarily used for gauges primary use is for MAP sensors...I doubt boost gauges are accurate or responsive enough to necessitate this...and I learned to do this from a DSM driver Mike Clark he had the fastest DSM in the state for a long time

Mike Clark? Hrm.. never heard of him. A buddy from Mason City, Shane Simon, had a 91 TSi AWD that easily would have dipped into the low 10's if he hadn't had another kid :( He was running an FP green, dry nitrous, still on piggy-back S-AFCI at low 11's. We swapped that over to an 3052 + bigger shot o2 and he was gonna buy a shep trans then had a kid, sold the whole thing, blah. Full weight and stereo too, btw :)

manguyen -- let me know if you figure anything out. Mine's buzzing right behind the vent, I'm just gonna pull that and tighten everything down.

Mike broke 10s on a stock block safc cams turbo(forgot which one this was because it was 7years ago) with 200k on it full weight plus cage

after that he had a 2.4stroker 4g63 running FP3065 laying down 650 on pump gas (green car)

neither car had a bottle

The kid designs jet engines for lockheed martin now...and tunes my car when he comes back to DM

yeah switching it dont help the buzzing it at all. boosting has the t-fitting from awe, and he still gets buzzing. i really think its the internals of the gauge... my buzzin is less though when i switched the filter around.

just my opinion, but i thought about leaving the quattro badge, the ditched it......no one needs to know i will hook up and they won't until i am past then who cares, cause they will know it is an audi

and you need an anti buzz t fitting
what guages are you guys running and what kind of line is coming into the guage?

i am about to ditch my set-up for a podi
http://podi.ca/Products.aspx

already pre-ordered it...... they should be out for the b5 a4 later this month early next.... they are making it and trying proper fittings right now

oh nice car by the way..... take some night shots of the lights and what lights are those? h7 bulbs or d bulbs

manguyen
03-20-2007, 06:19 PM
me boosting and john are running the AWE ones... plus awe kits come with the anti buzzing t fittings... so we eliminated that problem... plus john tried that plus the fuel filter.... still no luck..

Now that I look at it again, I think it would look even cleaner without the Quattro badge. It just seems like its stuck on there for no reason, plus it is so small its hardly noticeable. I'd just slice it off as well. :D

I wondered what happened to Clark. It sounds like you and I now some of the same people Jeff. I loved his car. It would sit there at the line sounding all stock and then ZOOOOM...gone. The kid is a giant motor brainiac.
As for the resistor for the illumination...it will work. You just have to find the right one. They also get a tad bit warm too. Nothing major. The buzzing you guys are getting is why I stayed away from AWE and got my Autometer Cobalt boost gauge for my car. It is a problem that is popping up on the MKV forums.

I'll be taking off the Quattro badge, that was the original plan anyway. I got down to that as the last one and kinda like the look but now it's looking more out of place.

turbo kraut -- they're Osram H7's, I'll get some pics up at night soon. I'm using H7s for high and low beam.. the lows seem to anger a few people, pretty damn bright :p
