So I used to think it was a little over priced for just a piece of carbon fiber to hold the filter, but since I have been a little bored lately I happened to have ran across it again and begin to wonder if it was a better filter then I thought?
The two things I like the best about it is you don't have to cut up your engine cover or get a new cover like you do with other CAI and it comes with an oil-less filter, I have had not so good experiences with oiled filters.
Things I'm unsure of is it keeps 80% of the stock intake, so is it really doing that much improvement?
Any way I was wondering what others thought about it or if anyone has it and can give some feedback on what you think?
Price $270-290

I have the carbonio intake on my A4 and it got rid of the entire stock airbox.
Can't say I noticed much performance wise, definitely audible though. Paired with an exhaust I felt the difference.
As far as being worth it, thats really up to you. It's a nice piece that looks great and fits very well.

yeah I believe it replaces the stock air box on the GTI's as well, just wasn't sure then why the other intakes get rid of the rest of the intake piping and this one didn't? But thanks for the feedback, helps to see others happy with the product though.

I have the Neuspeed intake on my gti but it sure makes the dv sound a lot louder, i have read on vortex that the carbonio adds more power with out changing the sound as much as other cai

Sound adding isn't all that important to me but it would be a nice benefit :D, but the nuespeed and evoms are also on the list of possibilities. did you have to trim your engine cover to get it to fit?

Carbonio is junk. It looks good and that's about it. You'll get far better performance gains from a K & N drop in replacement with the stock air box or with an eBay intake.
Unless you could find one fro $50, I'd pass.

i can't say i have experience with it or modifying mk5's..
but i would guess a k+n would give you about the same gains.
also i don't know what a mk5 airbox looks like but could you cut out the fender side to make it draw colder air? (we do this on mk3's .. if you are on vortex search for a thread titled "airbox mod" by the user "breezy")
if so.. this combined with a k+n should be exactly the same thing.

Some info/links to back this up?

x2 I don't think any intake could be classified as junk. All it is is a filter on the end of a pipe.

Jason, this was talked about like crazy on the MKV forums when the car first came out. It is a huge waste of money since all it does is replace that particular part of the intake. The part that is replaced is from the grill to the airbox that's it. You are paying for the CF and that is really way over priced for a cf part. The factory filter is still used as well as the rest of the factory airbox. The oem setup is crazy because the filter is in the bottom of the cover located toward the back right on top of the engine. You will get zero performance from the carbonio intake. Go with the Neuspeed setup or the EVO MS like I have on my GTI. Similar price and waaay better. I talked to the guys at EVO before I purchased mine a year and a half ago..... still working great and the customer service is way above par.
So basically my vote is a no unless you have money to waste....in that case just give it to me. lol

yeah I have read through some of the MKV forum and got mixed thoughts on it kinda like here too. I guess it just comes down to preference, on if you want the carbon fiber look or not. I was just thinking that it might be worth it for the not having to cut the engine cover and the dry filter but I guess you can get a dry filter with the evoms too so more thinking is in order, although I still think it might help alittle but I don't know if it is worth it yet.

Thats weird... the A4 one is much different. Completely replaces the stock airbox, filter, etc.

And even on the B5A4 Carbonio intakes are junk. people do their own custom setups usually. hear more people complain about the price and never any positives unless it has to do with people doing a CF themed engine bay.

okay all I could find was the install on an A3 pretty much the same thing as the GTI summery is that you replace the air filter but in the stock location. Then you replace the oem piece from the grill to the inlet system on the engine with the carbon fiber piece so I am now not thinking it does much more then replacing the stock filter for a better one
here is the article

still a really nice piece and it looks good and probably helps somewhat but not quiet worth the $280 for me at least

I agree with Mike...it doesn't replace anything besides right at the front. Who says you need to cut the engine cover. Just go without it doesn't do anything besides make it look pretty :D (If you do the CAI otherwise yes you still need it)

:word: I did the same thing as John. It does look good though. Once you get a cf airbox your gonna look at your engine cover and either want to take it off or get that in cf as well so it matches. These cars combined with the internet and a credit card are like money vacuums. It never ends.
