did you do any work on the radio(remove it uprgrade ect.) or did this problem just start? could be a crossed wire or blown fuse but really i'm not quite sure.

so the two radios you have installed are having the same problem? then I would think it would be a blown fuse or maybe the sensor in the ignition but I am not extremely familiar with mkiv's so hopefully someone with more experience will jump in and back me up or know better :D gl

Are these both aftermarket headunits? If so they might have just mixed up the constant power with the switchable power or something like that.

yes they are
when i first bought it the car dealer replaced the original with
a pioneer HU and i just replaced it with another new pioneer HU
and the problem still persists.

If you can find a wiring harness for the deck you have and a wiring harness for your factory wiring too you could probably trace the wires to see what ones are goin where. It sounds like your power wires are messed up and not giving power to the CD player when you want them to.

well now. the problem is it wont' turn on when the key is in acc. but, when you turn the ignition on, and leave it in the start position it will turn on.
so.....i think it's ignition problems.
right?
i'm sitting with him now. lol.

you sure all your wires are set in the harness right?(loose) or one is crossed maybe.

Is this the mk3 style jetta? If so probably a bad ignition switch.

Your problem is most likely in the wiring i would think you would have alot more issues than that if it was the ignition switch. It would be pretty easy to figure out with a test light and rewire everything to the fuse box.

just a thought, but does the HU work when the line running to the ignition switch is hooked up to the power wire(the constant 12v)? If it works then, then the problem should be somewhere in that line going to the ignition switch. I may be completely off base with some of this, my car has never had a line running to my ignition, i just tie it in with the power wire.

I'm not sure
I was uncertain about checking the ignition because it is my primarysource of transportation and if i effed it up then i wouldnt have one
but i think ill give it a try check the ignition lines.

yes this is the MK3. i know a few people with them. and they have ignition problems also..

well there's more problems that persist.
window doesn't roll up anymore. so none of the windows work anymore and when it rains or snow's it gets drenched.
power side mirror's don't work.
when you turn on the light at night. the tail lights are turned on like pushing on the brake. and stays on that way.
and of course the radio.
one time when i was with him he turned the key to acc. then i hit where the ignition was and i pushed the radio out of random. and it came on, when turned the engine on it shut off.
so... i'm certain it's ignition. what would fix this problems then? buying a new ignition?

I would start with the ignition switch. Its a cheap and fairly simple place to start, and the ignition switches are known for going bad. Testing the wires up to the ignition switch won't tell you if the switch is bad or not.

It's deff the ignition switch i worked on an MK3 that has a similar problem, in this case the lights wouldnt come on heater controls, windows and some other random stuff but the radio was fine. Switch is cheap like $25 bux. Have fun replacing it :) If i remember right you have to remove the steering wheel to get the litle bolt out. Be careful with the clock spring zip tie or duck tape it so it doesnt move if done wrong you will have an airbag light problem.

switch is cheap http://www.mjmautohaus.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_6_15_41_111_3904&info=OEM_VAG_6N0905865_Ignition_Switch_OEM&products_id=1685
and the last time i replaced one i tried it this way which wasn't too bad. There are a couple ways to do it, the other way you pull the steering wheel and clockspring and switches etc.
