Here's my brand new 2008 STI! I purchased it on Friday, December 5th 2008 from Heuberger Motors in Colorado. The thing is, I live in Des Moines Iowa! So I woke up at 4:30 AM, drove my 2006.5 VW GTI out to Colorado Springs, dropped it off and drove back Saturday. I couldn't be happier with my new car! The handling, speed, sound, and adjustability of the car blow me away! I used to own a 2002 WRX Wagon, but this blows it away in every way.
Only mod right now is winter tires, Continental ContiExtreme Contact in 235/40 18.
Here are some pics taken by my wonderful photographer/wife:

They really have come a long ways, I also had an 02 WRX before the R32. I like it, can't wait to see it in person :tu:

you're gonna love that this winter!
i was looking at subarus myself this week -- i thought the Legacy Spec-B was a pretty nice ride that was fun to drive, and i love Subaru's SI-Drive sytem, it works really well. :tu:

Yeah, the spec B's are real nice cars. Just don't buy one from Ramsey :td::td:

Those spec B's look like a great value. You STI however is a great car, but I'm still not sold on the hatch. I know how usefull they are and such, but they shouldn't be the only option.

Yeah, some people don't like the hatches, but I love em!! :D For a while it was the other way around. Us hatchback guys were upset we couldn't get an STI in hatch or wagon form. I was so excited when I learned the STI was available as a hatchback.
Great choice, I'm so jealous of you. Subaru's have an acquired taste but the STI hatch is pretty easy to get used to

ugh.
am i the only one that hates the looks of it?
:puke:
sorry to be opinionated but new cars look like dog****.
no doubt it has nice features and drives amazingly...
so for that, kudos.
on the looks... not so much.

I don't know how you can say it looks like dog **** (it's no pontiac aztek!!) but no one's asking you to like the way it looks.
I bought it for how it performs & how it sounds. Looks are very unimportant to me. If all I cared about was looks I sure as hell wouldn't be driving a subaru!! :D
But as an aside, I like the way it looks. It's just about the most aggressive looking hatchback I've ever seen.
Function over form FTW!

Actually Subaru has some good looking cars IMO. I really like the Legacy and the 2nd and 3rd generation Imprezas/WRX's.

Haven't updated this in a while, now's a good time.
Vid from dyno this summer:

Mods so far:
- Magnaflow Catback
- SPT boost gauge
- auto dimming mirror & compass
- Cobb Accessport, Stage 1 software.
Just put on the accessport today, it completely transforms the car! The power band is so much smoother (stock tune is crap) & should put me around 270 whp & 300 lb/ft of torque.
I also have a catless downpipe & an intake sitting in my basement, but I don't plan on putting those on my car until she turns about 50,000 miles or so.

great mods!
It sounds like those Subaru's are pretty similar to the turbocharged Euro cars... a tune is a must to get the power that should have been available stock ;).

Yep, it's so much fun! I was giddy like a kid going to bed on christmas eve last night. I couldn't sleep because I was so excited to go drive my car in the morning.

Update:
Well I decided to grow a pair and throw on my catless bellmouth downpipe tonight. It actually ended up being a multi-day task. I started the work on Friday & then it started raining, so I had to stop. Went on a trip this weekend & didn't get home till about 5:30 Sunday, but I finally got it done! I flashed the updated software to compensate for the catless turboback exhaust & took it for a drive. Boost comes on a lot quicker than it did before with the stock 2 cat flat plate downpipe. It now gets up to ~18.5 psi and should be in the 290-300 whp neighborhood. The car is a blast to drive, and it sounds soooo wicked!!!

Thanks guys. She's just about to cross 28000 miles. I keep thinking of more things I want to do to her. I think I'm going to modify the exhaust a little bit more. At the downpipe-catback connection it tapers down to 2.5" so I'm going to replace that section with a full 3" section & a resonator to quiet it down just a bit. After that, I'm going to get down to chicago as they have a good tuner there who can do a custom tune optimized for my car. Next spring I'm planning on doing new wheels & summer tires & a more aggressive alignment.

Well plans change, as they always do. I drove my STI over 37,000 miles, but it's time for a change. There's going to be a new car in my life shortly... it'll nice to be in something a lot more refined with a lot better gas mileage... a new Tornado Red 4-door GTI! :D

oh dear god. please don't downgrade. just buy a rabbit for a daily :)
I just sold my 2006 WRB STi. horrendous gas mileage but a wonderful car to say the least. Haven't driven a more rounded machine in a long while. Did I maybe see you on Fluer/MLK every once in a blue moon around rush hour?

Nah, rabbit's not enough car for me, though I do like the sound of a 5 cylinder. The only way the GTI is a downgrade really is acceleration and lack of AWD, and it's an upgrade in a number of other ways. I'm beginning to think AWD is overrated, and I don't think the MPG penalty is worth it anymore.

i guess it all depends on what you do with the car and what its meant to be used for. the STi is simply not a daily driver in my opinion...unless you have deep pockets or own your own gas station. Certainly a great platform for any type of racing you could ever wish to get into. could easily see how a gti would be better for commuting and having fun with to/from work and on the weekends.

mkVI baby. I considered getting a a 4-door 2009 mkV, but the rotary seat adjustment was a no go for the wife, and I don't blame her. All the mkVI 4-doors have power recline, which will be fantastic.
