Any one know much about brake upgrades?

Was wondering if anyone knows alot about brakes... I want to get a set of porsche boxster front and rear brakes for my car... i know the front could be made to fit my b6 a4, but im not sure how hard it is to custom fit the rears.... my brakes are giving me problems again.... i though it was my parkiing brake (which it is still) but i heard a grinding noise from my brakes the other day....

that's hard to say. Wouldn't the rotors be 5x130 since they would be from a porsche? Or can they be redrilled? Or would you just use the carriers and calipers?

A few questions

why are you wanting to upgrade your brakes?

how much more fluid does the porsche brake hold?

what is the size difference in bore diameter of the piston in the master cylender between the two cars?

just putting bigger calipers does not help if you dont have decent pedal pressure because your Master CYL is not engineered for those brakes.

Keep in mind, although those brakes MIGHT help you stop earlier (read post above about master cylinder, etc.), BBK are really meant to help brake fade for people that track their cars...

You can upgrade your brakes for A LOT less by picking up a set of racing pads, stainless steel brake lines, Motul brake fluid and a larger set of rotors.

If your going more for show and plan on tracking the car - Porsche brakes are sweet.

The think is that when my ebrake froze up on me, it did some damage to my rotors and other parts... i heard some grinding noises the other day from that back wheel. So i was planning on replacing everything in the rear and i saw the porsche brakes. i found out that they dont have ebrake capabilities so scratch that. I'm probably going to find out if i could get a hold of some used stock rear calipers and upgrade to S4 brakes... John Sell me your brakes. :)

The B7 A4 brakes are the same as the B6 S4 brakes ;)

You *might* be able to score something on AZ - a couple guys have gone BBK.

I wish I could afford a BBK but i can't justify it at all right now.... I need other things first! ;)

you should be able to order rebuilt calipers from any auto parts store

I'm not sure what's different about the B5 vs B6 brakes but the A8 brake upgrade from PureMS is a great upgrade for us B5ers :tu:

we were talkin about the S4 brakes stefan.... they are alot better than our A4 brakes.... b5 & b6 brakes suck... b7 are better...

What about Boxster monoblock Calipers? I know they fit B5s nicely and I just sold a set ot a dude in Hong Kong via ebay... went with the TT upgrade instead.

You'll have to get some pictures up of your brake upgrade when you do it. I'm planning on doing Mk4 1.8T calipers with 11" Corrado rotors.
