I need my timing belt replaced, and a new power steering pump.
I have a 97 audi a4 1.8 turbo.

I took it to Wrenches on se14th and he quoted me $1500 total to do everything. He said that was only 450 for the labor, and it would be an 8 hour job.

Does anyone know a shop that would be cheaper? And a good website where i could order the parts myself so they would be cheaper?

Try www.mjmautohaus.com for your OEM parts or autotech.com has an OEM parts website as well (linked from their home page). Hope that helps. A timing belt kit with waterpump should only be about 150 and a power steering pump I don't see being very expensive either.

what does AEB, ATW, AWM mean on the timing belt kits?

Those are engine codes. You have a AEB 1.8 in your A4.

If you were closer, I'd do it for you, probably save you $100 or so.

Don't know that they would be cheaper but Terry's Auto in windsor heights did my exhaust and I would trust him to work on my car, good luck on getting everything fixed :tu:

You might have a vacuum leak. I had a simular problem and that was it. Kevin would be able to give you the best advice.

sorry to resurrect this thread... but is there a complete list of VAG specialty shops on here? location anywhere from DSM to C.Rapids

the following work needs to be done on a 01 b5s4

k04 turbo swap
torque converter swap
valve gaskets

if the shop handles 3rd party warranties as well.

Awesome.. my cousin is going to be picking up a b5s4... and he lives in DSM..

so it won't be my car persay =P i'll let him know you exist...

can you tell me your shop rate and give me a rough estimate on the above stated assuming

k04 swap labor is covered under warranty
valve gaskets covered under warranty

TC labor won't be... but considering you have to pull the engine already the cost should be minimal... VAST in MI said they'd do it no charge... but i won't hold you to that per se...

if you wish to answer in PM that's fine by me.. =)

thanks again.

Many of us on here will completely endorse Kevin (vwmeister) as THE go-to guy in the general area. He has done a timing belt for turboa4 and I am sure several others, and provided a huge helping hand when we installed the turbo on my R32. Great guy, way smarter than anyone should be, and absolutely dependable :tu:
