Hey guys i remember a couple guys who bought new suspension components and was wondering if someone wanted to help me put mine on during spring break? I feel left out here in ames, with all the other lowered B6 a4's... i seen two of them today... This would be great guys... because i was going to just order some tires and put my wheels on too during break. As from my previous thread ages ago.... i'll buy the beer... (actually i'll get my friend to do it and i'll just supply it to you guys :) ) Also what do i need to do this job?

No I don't have a garage, though a friend of mine in Dunkerton (15min from Cedar Falls) lets me use his shop/garage most of the time. I was gonna talk to him about working out there next saturday (march 3rd) to do some work on mine.

At the last gtg 1fastb5 offered up his shop once and awile.... if i remember right.
I know Loccusst has a nice two-car garage down in Urbandale that he is willing to let people use. That might be the best bet for a location.
As far as a date, let us know what works for you and we'll see if we can swing it. :tu:

Seems like the March GTG will be on the 4th, the 3rd will be just fine with me since I was planning on working on the car that day anyway. I've only got a few small things to do, grind down fender/install new headlights, sidemarkers, grille, then possibly seafoam/oil and spark plug change.
edit: installing boost gauge too :tu:
yeah, we are doing the GTG in Waterloo on March 4th.
If you want to do your install on the 3rd, where are you thinking about for location?

Well, I have to work from 8AM-1PM and then we're leaving as soon as I get home. It has been fine for the past four months, so I'm sure it will be ok for this trip. I'll probably just make sure to take my gallon of coolant with me. Usually I have to add more to the tank every couple months due to the small leak.
I'd have them do it at the dealership this Friday with my oil change but I know the labor charges would be outrageous.

I get mine done at the dealership....but then I had mine worked into the deal when I purchased the car. I got all the maintanance wraped up into the price for two years. No way I am gonna do anything myself now.....other than upgrades.

Its cold outside, I have no garage, and I HATE having to dispose of waste oil.
To me, paying $30 is well worth it. I don't have to jack up the car, put stands under it, find the filter, drain the oil, catch all the nasty oil in a drainpan, put on a new filter, refill the car, take the stands out, lower it down, drive a big sloshing oil pan full of nastiness to the local O'Reilly's where I then have to dump it out.
I'll all for working on my car and doing almost everything myself, but when it comes to oil changes, I'd just rather take it in. :tu:

If anyone could help me out with suspension that would be great. If not, could you steer me in the right direction as far as what shops I can go to that will install springs and shocks? I want to lower my W8 in the worst way, but I need to line up springs and shocks at a good price. Do you have any suggestions besides awe tuning and shox.com?

I'm looking into an H&R springs/Bilstein setup. It honestly doesn't matter what kind of shock I get (Koni, Neuspeed, Bilstein, whatever)...I may just run stock shocks with the H&R's. I dunno, I'm kinda green to the mod thing! :beerglass:
I was looking to see if it would be cheaper to get the springs and shocks as a combo/package, but if I can get them separately and still save some money I'll be happy. I can probably get the lowering springs NIB for $200 shipped from another W8er. I just need some guidance as far as what shocks to go with.

Don't run stock shocks when you have springs with lower ride height.. they'll turn to sh*t real fast.

werd. even if you buy them separately, wait until you have everything before installing. lowered suspension on stock shocks will not ride very well.

So I've heard. It's just frustrating because it's hard to find a good suspension package since my Passat is a rare breed (W8). The sell packages for every other Passat, but not W8's. I just can't believe shocks (the ones that I need, anyway) are that expensive!
EDIT: Actually I'm looking into buy a set of S4's and wrapping them in 225/45/17 rubber. If the ride height isn't that bad I might just leave the suspension stock.

Well I did my springs and shocks on Friday.......not fun at all. TurboA4 came down to get his CEL checked with the Vag Com and helped me out. Thanks dude. I went with the Neuspeed springs and Koni FSD struts/shocks. It needs to be nice out for me to see how it takes the turns, but the ride is nice...maybe better than stock on the highway. Anyway, those of you with the MKV give yourself the better part of the day to do it. Also, don't be a reject like me and think you can do it with out the strut spreader tool. So if we do end up having some sort of a GTG for suspension work let me know since TurboA4 and I now have experiance on the MKV. I still need to help out Manguyen with his setup.
