here's the deal... my lights were'nt working along with my wipers, AC, rear defrost, turn signals, and re-circ. unless i had the key in the right position inside the cylinder or if i turned my brights and held them on. so i replaced my ignition switch. everything went smoothly, hooked everything up and went to start the car and everything that didnt work before now works except my car wont start. wont crank, doesnt click, no noise what so ever. but everything else works, power windows/locks, radio, lights..etc. so... i was thinking security system, ive checked my connections from the steering column and where everything plugs in. the only thing i did was take the negative terminal off the battery and unplugged connections from steering column. if you have any ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

I have ran into this problem and after doing some search i read somwhere to go buckle the drivers seat and the car should start. I laughed but it worked for me, stupid VW. Worth a try. If it doesn't work try going outside and lock/unluck the door with the key to unarm the security system.
