Inspired by Boostin's thread about new wheels, I started doing a lot of searching last night. I was thinking about getting some Slipstreams, but now my focus has shifted to a set of 17x7" Flik Wasp wheels. EdgeRacing.com has a great deal on them and they are styled after a nice looking BBS wheel. i really love the split rim, mesh style of wheel and i think these would go perfect on the car.

now the question is which color? Silver, Gunmetal or Black?

yeah, i like the gunmetal as well. the silver just looks too much like stock, I think, and the black is just too dark.

gunmetal looks great, even when they get dirty, thats what i'd go for. black is almost too common and i think the black out look is getting boring, but thats IMO :D

I know a guy up in Minnesota selling 5 18" Flik Wasps in silver (one has two small nicks, other 4 are perfect) and 4 Pirelli tires (kinda crappy but have 60%ish thread left) for $650.. I'm sure you could talk him down a bit, and he's willing to meet halfway so no shipping.

He emailed me the pics yesterday, they have Audi centercaps too. I was looking at buying them but spent my $ on that other stuff in my thread :p

problem is that those don't have the same bolt pattern as my car. i need 4x100.

i like TJ's comment about the gunmetal wheels. i agree in that black is just too common, plus it seems you almost lose the design of the wheel because it is so dark. the gunmetal wheels will be nice because they will hide brake dust...lol

here are some cars sporting these wheels in various colors....

if your talking to me i got it from an e-mail saved it to paint then to photobucket, and then adam helped make them smaller

Mike i lokes as if gm and blk are neek and neck
you should go some where and have them put a simaler type wheel on your car. one on front that is gm and one on back that is blk and see what you like.i honestly think that if you don't go black you should go polished , ithink gm goes better with grey or silver cars.
the other thing is are you ever going to paint the car a diff color? if so think about that. i hope to have a place to paint in a couple years so color change wouldn't be a big deal.or a nice black. but as expensive as wheels are i'd think about the whole picture before decideing on a color.
i think i'd like a set of wheels like mweuros but id go all black except the insets leave them polished

that is something i am also thinking about. i've had thoughts about doing the car in United Grey, which would probably put gunmetal wheels out of the picture, but then again, what is the actual likelihood that the car will get repainted? lol Decisions! Decisions!

if you're talking about mine, i made it myself. i outlined a front view of a Mk3 and then did some other cool stuff in Photoshop to get the nice background effects. Then just slapped my name in there with a thick black border. :tu:

I don't mean to be the Devil's Advocate, but I've read a few horror stories with Flik wheels. Unfortunately they are pretty soft wheels - a lot of guys have had durability issues... they dont hold up to pot holes too well.

But being replaced at $100 is nothing to gripe about. Give me an 18" wheel with 225 tires that'll hold up to a good sized pothole

i've actually done a lot of research showing just the opposite. there are plenty of people on Vortex that have ridden on Flik wheels for over 2 years with no bending or anything. people have hit large pot holes without any damage at all. plus, I've seen numerous R32 owners running these wheels without complaint.

I like the silver. I like the stock look. Looks a lot like my mk3 gti. I wish I could put those wheels on my Rabbit, I just think the 16"s would look too small, 18"s I think look too big, and 17"s would be just nice. Im getting the stock 15" x 6" steelies for winter driving. 6" width = better traction.

Also I think gold spoked rims on a dark blue car, esp. Subaru Blue, looks f'ing baller! But that goes back to my 2003 WRC roots. Nothing, in my mind, will ever look as slick as the 2003 Subaru Impreza WRC or the 2002 Peugeot 206 WRC. Im pretty sure I would sell my soul, and or body for sexual favors, for one of those bad boys.

I like the idea of a red lip/black wheel but I'm not too fond of that wheel design (4-spoke one), the other doesn't show up since I'm at work.

If I were to do something like that I'd go with a simple 5-spoke design. Are you going to be having any other red details on the car?

I like that design much much more, though I'd say have the spokes black and paint that lip red, don't go too much on red IMO, too much of a contrast. I don't know how much I like a red wheel/polished lip on a black car.. you'd need more silver/polished parts on your car. I forget how your MK3 grille looks but you could possibly outline that in red? Maybe once I (I really need to look into this, I'm sorry guys) get the PKG decals some small red ones in the rear quarter windows could help too. You've got good taste, I know ya won't overdo it :tu:

I think flick makes some pretty decent looking wheels...ESPECIALLY when you consider the price...BUT...I have only heard that they don't 'wear well'...they have a finish that is susceptable to damage from salt, brake dust, etc.

While i have no first-hand experience with them, i read up on them because of the price...and have heard that in the long run, they aren't the best choice.

Do you have any interest in Schmidts? I love some of their wheels...plus, check out these videos on how much abuse they can take without damage.
The modernlines below have these prices from Tunershop

Special Set Price: $899 (4 rims, bolts and hub centric rings)
