Let me preface this with a description of what it's doing.
1995 GTI VR6 OBD1 the wiring looks to be a mess...

Starts and runs and idles fine, with some minor hesitation both occasionally when idling and when driving between 2-3k RPM's mainly. Under heavy load there is no hesitation at all. Everytime it hesitates, I can hear a relay click in correspondence.

I've ordered a new ECM Relay, Fuel Pump Relay and an Ignition switch. Those were all cheap so I figured why not. They haven't arrived yet but I'll stick em in when they do.

I know the car needs plugs too, so I'm ordering plugs and wires as well... but I wanted to see if any of the below codes gave you any clue as to what I should do other than the aforementioned items.

Thank you!!

Sounds like you might have something going on with your VREF singal or a bad ground/open wire somewhere. Get out your wiring diagrams and meters, too bad its intermittant.

Imagine that! Good luck - can be tough to chase down.

It's gotta be a bad ground.

Record and clear all DTC's.

If or when the CEL returns, go after the DTC(s) that set the CEL.

Good luck

OK, When you FIRST notice a CEL. Pull dtc(s) immediately. Sometimes one fault code will trigger another one. Too bad OBDI and early OBDII doesn't timestamp occurrences.

Thanks! I just dropped it off to be diagnosed.
I appreciate the help! I'll post the results. They seemed discouraged that it's an OBD1 engine.

***UPDATE***

Apparently there was a wire with a bare spot under the engine somewhere that was arc'ing against the body and causing a misfire.

It's all better now!!

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

I wonder if my problem is similar to yours? I've been having a rough idle for the longest time and it gets even worse with the A/C on. Makes me think it is something electrical.
