I'm 99% sure you do not need a vag-com to do this. I have heard it can be done by simply turning your key to the run position WITH the hood and drivers side door open. You will hear a loud beep from around the motor. When it stops. You're good to go. I've done it, seemed to run smoother for a few hundred miles anyway whatever it did.

If you already have the cable (the actual ross-tech cable, not the ebay crap) just download the software, its free from their site.

exactly correct. All you need to do is get in your car (hood does not need to be open I don't think) and then sit down, turn the key to "on" but do not try to start the motor... wait 1 minute then turn it on. How did yours get misaligned? Are you having issues with your car running bad?

Using VAG-COM:
Throttle Body Adaptation:
Turn the key on but do not start the car.
[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Measuring Blocks - 08]
Group 060 (Group 98 in non-DBW engines)
[Go!]
[Switch to basic settings]
Once you do this you will see the top right display say ADP RUN. The TB
adaptation is being done as soon as you switch to basic settings. You will see the values change and hear the TB cycle for the first few seconds then it will stop. Leave it in basic mode for about 30 seconds, then switch back to normal settings and you're all set.
Be sure not to touch the accelerator and make sure the engine is NOT running when you do this!
The method that is mentioned above...
(This method has been claimed to work. I don't know if this works and I don't care because I have a VAG-COM but I posted it for info sake)
1. Open the hood then open the driverside door.
2. Put the key in the ignition "on" position which is just before the start position
3. Walk towards the engine and listen to your engine. It will make high pitch beep for about 1min or so. You will hear your throttle body adjusting itself.
4. When all the sounds stops. Close the hood. Get in the car. Close the door then start your engine.
5. Wait about 20sec before you move your vehicle.

Really? I thought all that procedure did was waste time, I thought VAG-COM was the only way....

So you don't have the ross tech cable then. The full blown software is free, assuming you have the actual cable. I am pretty sure the open door thing doesn't really work.

Sorry to say you don't have a Ross-Tech cable then because the software is free the license to unlock everything is only in their cable which is roughly $300

Exactly, believe us man, we have even had others download the software to other laptops to use with our cable that we bought from ross tech.
