First of all, I want to thank Casey again for helping me out last night. :tu:

As some of you know I have been having some problems lately with the Jetta, as it has been eating batteries non stop over the last month and a half. I came to the conclusion that something was staying on while the car was off, drawing power from the battery, causing it to drain.

So last night I drove up to CR to test it, Casey and I found that it was pulling anywhere from a 1 - 1.5 amps while turned off. :banghead

We started pulling fuses to see if we could pinpoint the problem, and turns out it was the Monsoon HU. So now I need to find a new double din Monsoon HU, and problem solved. So for now, every time I get out of my car I have to pull that fuse out (how ghetto ).

If anyone has an extra Monsoon Double Din HU laying around, I would love to buy it from you :).

New pictures soon I promise!

In the next couple weeks I think I will be heading back up to CR so Casey and I can fix, prep and paint the sideskirts finally.

Thanks again Casey for helping me out and supplying the tools :tu::dp::md:

What makes you think it's the HU itself? Could just be the wiring...

I wish I had the radio removal keys, that would have told us even more there if I could have removed it... however Steve said his radio was on the fritz the last few months so we concluded that the radio has some kind of internal short.

I guess if a new radio does not cure the problem then the wiring in that circuit will have to be looked at.

Euroswitch swapping is really easy. I don't have a very good place for painting, so maybe we could do all that at your place? I have a dirt floor barn and wind whips through there and kicks up all kinds of dust :computer:

Just as Casey said the HU has been acting very strange lately. For about a month it wouldn't even turn on, then one day after having the battery disconnected for something else, it randomly turned on.

I also had Carousel check it out a while ago (when it wasn't working) because I thought that maybe I could get them to cover it under warranty and they told me it tested bad. This doesn't really provide me with much though, because they probably just wanted to sell me a new one for $350 :sly:

Either way, A used Monsoon HU sells for about $60 or so on the tex, so it won't be the end of the world if that isn't the problem. But I'm about 90% sure that it is.

My MKII Jetta was doing this lately, I pulled the cigarette lighter out and pushed the trunk light so it won't turn on, and it hasn't had a problem since.
