here lately(last week or so) i have been having a strange issue with my 90' 525i. Once in a while the radio and OBC shuts off on its own, like when driving around town mostly but when i get back up to highway speeds for a time period it will all come back on. Also when it does this the windows wont roll up or down either.
Shortly before this when i was going home my amp for my subwoofer shut off about halfway home and won't power back on. I dont know if it has something to do with it or not. Also the rear speakers will stop producing sound.
Any Ideas on what it could be? Any in site on these issues is appreciated. Thanks

I have a walmart Dual DVD/CD flip out installed and a small Sony amp/JL sub combo, everything else is all stock. Right now the amps power wire isnt hooked up to the battery because i thought it was the amp causing it so i disconnected it, but the problem still comes and goes. Also might note that the alternator has been making whining noises once in a while usually when the engine is cold, once warmed up it all goes away though.

was this professionally installed? Was an adapter harness used or did the original harness get cut?

the original harness was cut before i bought the car, it had some other deck in in and i bought the DVD player for it and installed it.
I also posted on bimmerforums.com and a guy there thought it could be the fusible link right by the battery and it was cracked on mine so i replaced that with a new one(thanks mercedes dealer). So far it is working ok but i dont think the rear speakers are working still, i may be something with the amp wiring though.

more then likely yes it is a problem between the amp and rear speakers not the deck and amp

There must be a problem with the amp and the rear speakers. Try to check the wiring if its fine.
