You know how I am Kiel. I would go for performance before looks. Thus the reason why I drive a beat up minivan that is quick as hell. Although everything you have listed in there looks great. You just need to decide on which brands of the certain things you want to get. As for the boost gauge I would go for the one that looks like your factory gauges in one of the vent pods.

I helped Loud&Clear (Kaleb) install his boost gauge and it wasn't too hard aside from the fact that they provided no instructions and I have never installed a boost gauge before. It was the kind that replaces vent above the headlight switch. Removing the stock vent from it's trim was the worst part. Everything else was straightforward.

Careful with the tap.. It fits fine and does it's job, but Kaleb's car got residual blow-by crap saturating his filter, goign INTO the boost sending unit. Ruined it. Also since it was during winter, it went in the little plastic filter housing and froze/expanded and broke the plastic shell of the filter. Just a heads up. I'm sure there's a better way to get the boost signal to the little box.

Hmmm. So this is the original no buzz t fitting that I bought way back when. Should I use this instead of the 42 DD boost tap?

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff190/fox85holly/f9bad900.jpg

And... I kinda want to have the boost gauge connected to my dimmer switch so that it will dim with the rest of the lights in the cabin. Is that a good idea or should I just hook it up so that it lights up when I turn my brake lights on? I did a little research on how to install but I'm still a little confused on which fuse to hook up with which wires and what not. Any info would be much appreciated. ( I tried the search bar but it got the best of me...).

love the project man those body peices from Osir and a little lowering it will look BA, but i'm with Jordan function before form (which is what ur doing)
I'm glad you with with the single mono from Osir. IMO boost seems like a guage you'd never get bored of so having it right up top is perfect, the double one you were looking at should be for others if you so choose to.

jw would i be able to swap to a defi gauge from an AWE boost gauge kit (anyone?) i'm talking like just pull the gauge and hook up the existing wires and such? I love the look of them

fahrenheit201
05-12-2010, 11:53 PM
Ok... I'm out in the cold, dark, rain attempting to put in my boost gauge. I know I should wait for someone who knows what they are doing, but where's the fun in that? So, now we pray to the VW gods that I don't blow up my baby. I have taken the battery out, taken out the battery holder, taken out the vent (for the osir monopod mount), taken out the light switch, and now it's break time. (Smoke and pizza). I am in the process of figuring out where to feed the wiring through the fire wall into the cabin...

Well, Im done for the night. Im soaked to the bone (So is Jordan, who stopped by for a few minutes. He's a trooper!). All thats left is to install the boost tap and splice in the power (plus put back on all the extra pieces that I didn't need to take off). I'll be finishing up at Jordan's house in the morning. Pics to come soon!

Did you drill a hole? There's an unused grommit/blockoff in the firewall just above where the clutch pedal would be. It actually might be the spot where the clutch pedal is in a mk5 manual. Anyways that's where I went to feed the wires into the firewall.

I just cut a little slit in the rubber above where the main wiring enters the firewall by the dead pedal. Fed the wire right through with no problems.

Went over to Jordan's house this mornin and worked a bit more on the boost gauge.

42 Draft Designs boost tap installed. It was cake. Unclip hose, insert boost tap, reclip hose. Done.

Engine bay all back together.

And i figured out today that, with the Osir opod mono, you take out the whole 6 inch vent piece and leave it out. Just insert opod mono and it fits perfect. All I need to do is splice in the power with the help of Jordan.

BTW: Kiel you now have GM parts in your car. That plastic body clip that is holding your sending unit on there was originally from a GM for a fender liner. :p

Yeah Kiel give me a little more time with the multimeter and we will get all the wiring sorted out. I would have spent more time on that area but the VR6 took a little longer then I thought it would to get in.

No real product number needed hit up their site and you can get it with the install kit for 50 bones plus shipping in either 90 degree fitting or straight for the gauge. I shall be stocking shortly if interested or else hit em up direct

i love that gauge. i was thinking of going to the same route as you, but i was having a hard time finding the gauge for cheap. did you end up using that no buzz fitting?

Nope. It doesn't need one cause its an electrical boost gauge. The vacuum line only goes to the sending unit which sends the boost pressure electronically to the boost gauge. So I'm pretty sure that was only a problem with the mechanical boost gauges where the vacuum line actually goes straight to the gauge. I just used the 42 DD boost tap for the vacuum line to sender. Then ran the wires into the cabin. And I did pay top dollar for the gauge but I think it was worth it.

P.S. Jordan (Saab900CE) was also a main ingredient in the installation of my boost gauge. He'll know more about it than I do.

Was thinking about putting some graphics on my dull engine cover. Here are a few ideas that I had. Any suggestions?

The fast symbol was my first thought. If I did one of these, I would prolly put #201 somewhere in the corner also.
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff190/fox85holly/bbc8a4a3.jpg

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff190/fox85holly/7ca1f026.jpg

This graphic is actually a VW logo but I changed a few things. On top, it used to say 2006. I changed it to 201 (my fahrenheit #). Instead of "Drivers Wanted" next to the VW symbol, I put "Fahrenheit". Lastly, I changed the bunny logo to a fast logo.

Soooo... I'm thinking about chipping the fahrenheit. Pretty sure I wanna go APR. Anyone know if and where I can get a trial? How much? I've heard about a program that lets you switch back and forth between different octanes and back to stock. I def want that one. Anyone on PKG that can give me a trial and possible install? I would be more than willing to pay whatever the going rate is.

Dubuque, Andy (dubtuner) is an APR dealer, trial flash is free, i recommend (as will andy) to wait to get the fully loaded ecu until there sale (should be around waterfest), if you want to see what stage 2+ plus is like let me know i'll take you for a ride and let you see, if you get a downpipe you can get stage 2 software, but even the stage 1 is like driving a whole new car. It is truly i great and will make you want to keep going until you have sunk a lot into it.

$500 deductible for my insurance. My store manager checked the video footage on the parking lot but my car was like 10 feet out of view... :( So, the estimate came out to $2,100 to fix her. I will def ask about alignment and have the body shop check the suspension as well. Thanks for the advice. It will be at least 3 weeks before I can get her in to be fixed. And u can bet that if I see a red vehicle, with Fahrenheit orange marks on it, shits gonna hit the fan.

No shit right? I was so glad to have it back in new condition! Although I was soooo pissed yesterday... I found some thick black scratches on the bottom of my front bumper. I don't remember bumping anything and idk how someone else would've done the damage. I juuusssttt got it fixed and now this. Ugh. Oh well. I'm gonna try some touch up paint for now.
