So who's down for this next summer?

Dublin, Texas has the oldest Dr Pepper plant in the U.S. This year they had a 116th Birthday Party for the plant and they do this yearly. For the week they change the name of the city to Dr Pepper, Texas and have a big party with carnival rides and events and stuff. Visitors get free Dr Pepper and tours of the plant all day. The date is June 9 but last year they actually celebrated on June 4th and they haven't said yet what day it will be for 2008.

This plant is also only about an Hour or so from the Waco, TX Dr Pepper Museum which is 3 floors of awesomness.

Did I mention that the Dublin plant is one of the only plants that refused to change to High Fructose Corn Syrup so they still produce it with imported Imperial cane sugar instead and it's supposed to be outstanding!

Jess and I want to do this. I know many of you are adicts as well so lets make a sweet PKG roadtrip.

Mapquest puts Des Moines to Dublin at 12 hours - but since we're not driving through the Rockies or anything there should be no reason it's not a little shorter than and an easy drive to do it straight through.

I would be up for it if I didn't have to get an internship but need it to graduate and it will most likely take a lot of my summer time. :(

I don't know, 6 or 8 months in advance is pushing it.. :nono: Standard procedure for time off is at LEAST 10 months if not a year!

It's not a bad drive till you get past Dallas. It becomes boring flat lands after a bit. I have family down there and used to live there myself. Guess it would make for a good reason to visit them...been too long. This would require either someone willing to drive a straight 12 hours or a two man crew. I have made it fromRound Rock, right outside of Austin, to Des Moines in 12 going about 90 and stopping only for bathroom breaks. I would not advise speeding outside of Iowa pretty much at all and I think Kansas is one of those crazy states that outlawed radar detectors. The Kansas Turnpike sucks plain and simple.Only one stop for gas and food right when you get on it, after that you are **** out of luck. But if funds permit and the wife wants to I would be up for it.

I know this is an old thread and all.
I grew up, went to high school, and hour and a half from Dublin. My wife is from just south of that area. If this is something you guys are going to do in 09 I an on it. Next time I am down in Tejas I'll see if I can bring up some Dublin DP.
