View Full Version : What are your winter plans?

I plan on cleanin up the engine bay and relocating the battery and fuse box. Powdercoat a few things here and there and BAM, you got yourself a nice clean engine! I also plan on revamping the interior at some point with a guy in missouri, his work is pretty flawless. Replace the blingin' steering wheel with a TRD racing one, and it really helps to bring the supra interior up to modern standards!

Well i am hoping to add a chip so my car isnt running lean anymore after the MAF and intake upgrade, new CSB and guibo(center support bearing and Flex Disc) for the drive shaft, adjustable sway bars front and rear, headers, track pipe to get rid of failing cats, short shifter, stainless steal brake lines, slotted rotors front and rear and Hawk brake pads. I think that should cover it..

You might want to throw clutch in there after the chip. More often then not they go out after hard running on a chip. ;) Unless you :drive: like a girl? ;)
Oh, and boost gauge.

What a can of worms in that phrase.. *says nothing and waits for Gary and Marcus to start in.. and everyone else*
The clutch is actually in very good condition right now. As for after chipping, I haven't heard any one else saying they have had their clutch fail faster than normal after upgrading their ECU.

All I know is I drove mine hard and it went. If you drive smartly (ie don't go around dropping the clutch, doing burnouts, etc), it'll last you a long time. I think stock are good to around ~250ft/tq. But a boost gauge is a MUST to more easily diagnose issues you might/will have.

this winter will be busy -- aside from graduating and starting a new career, my goal is to have at least the exterior and suspension done by spring. here's the list:
starting on thanksgiving break...
-underbody steam clean & surface rust removal
-fresh undercoating on the underbody
-complete suspension: shocks, springs, all mounts & components
-prep exterior for paint
-removal of US-spec bumpers, install euro bumpers
-install new nose piece
-exterior paint
-install new exterior door & fender trim where necessary
-new wheels/tires
-exhaust: custom build, alpina-spec
-replace sunroof seal
-replace u-joint
-rebuild or replace injectors
...and for the interior and other items to be completed after spring of next year:
-install new dash board, may cover in black leather w/french stitching
-M-sport 10-way power seats
-rear adjustable headrests
-reupholster all seating surfaces, original cream leather with the option of blue suede inserts or piping (undecided)
-alcantara suede headliner
-complete audio system w/navi, sat, ipod, & bluetooth (haven't decided on the setup yet)
-m-tech suede steering wheel
-new carpets -- may not since the originals are in good shape
-replace OBC & cruise control modules
-bi-xenon HID headlamp conversion
-rebuild motor, OR replace with 4.0 V8 & 6spd out of a '98+ 540i (much later)
this may take some time :D

Interesting that they can actually do that given the fact it turns into a public parking ramp after 5 pm.... Doesn't surprise me that they would try to impose that rule though.

Its because of the pic of the building in the background. You know wells and their "image" crap..... If I'm there and the people tell me to leave ill just flash my wells badge to them and tell them to f' off. Plus like you said after 5 its public, tell them to call the cops next time and they will leave you alone because the cops will laugh at them because taking pictures on public grounds isn't breaking the law.

Probably deciding between a MK5 GTI, Jetta, or a late model A4... ;)
I think I've decided to keep the W8 at least through the winter if not until the warranty expires in October 2008. I'm going to try to pay it down more (along with my other debt ) and then look for a replacement. I want to stay in the VAG family, so my choices will hopefully will remain between a newer B5.5 1.8T Passat, MK5 GTI, Jetta (maybe TDI), A4 or A3, if I can find one. I did a search for A3's on Cars.com last night and only two were found (with manuals) within a 150 mile radius...
So my plans will be to put some decent tires on the W8, sell the Fat 5's, and keep my eyes peeled for the perfect VAG product (although I reserve the right to change my mind at any time! :D)
