So apparently my R32 is pissed at me for not driving it all the time anymore because on the way home from work today I got a CEL. This probably gives me enough reason to just buy a vag-com, but I was wondering if anyone had one we could throw in my car and do a quick scan?

Well I pulled the negative cable and reconnected it after letting it sit for a while and the CEL didn't immediately come back. I would still like to scan it though...

Made it through a coffee run without the CEL coming back. Maybe its just like my MFD, some weird stuff on there sometimes. I remember one day I had 2000 miles till empty (had half a tank), lets see a pussy Prius touch that.

I am free Friday if you need a scan with the Vagcom....

stollen
01-17-2007, 09:58 AM
I am actually taking Friday afternoon off so that may work out pretty well. I would even buy afternoon beers if you want....

Loccusst
01-17-2007, 10:00 AM
No beers needed. I do need to help my Mom with starting an Ebay account Friday afternoon but checking your car with the Vagcom doesn't take long really. We can clear out any codes and see what the codes were for the CEL.

Cool, I will probably leave work between 11 and 12, let me know when and where you want me to show up and I will be there.

Loccusst
01-17-2007, 10:07 AM
It is probably easiest to do it at my place when you get off. We can pull the car in and be some what warm.

stollen
01-17-2007, 10:31 AM
I assume you want to try to do it as early as possible right? If so I can try to be at your place at 12 (if I leave work at 11 that should give me plenty of time).

Loccusst

Cool, if you wanna pm me your address and phone number I could give you a call when I am on my way tomorrow. Oh yeah, maybe your name too :o

Thanks

My scanner only works with what is in the memory (unhooking the battery clears that code) I would put 50 on it being a "cat performing out of spec" error code I have reset probably 9 or 10 vehicles with those in the past two weeks it is related to the moisture that forms in the gas tank causing misfires and rich run conditions during ass cold weather

As for the unit I have It is an OBDII and CAN scanner works on anything 99 and newer

Well, I disconnected the battery a couple days ago, and the CEL went away. I drove the car for the first time today and the CEL came back when I was on my way home from work... We shall see tonight I guess.

The damn CEL came back today. Of course I didn't drive the R for a week and a half before today, but when I woke up and saw snow I had to take the awd car that has winter tires on it.... I am just gonna make an appt at Jordan, I still have warranty left so I guess I can let someone else do the work.

LMAO!!!!! I have the Vag com so let me know if you want to know befor eit goes into Jordan for the fix. I plan to do it if mine ever needs to go in. I just don't trust mechanics and now I can see what the issue is and then see if they are correct when they atempt to fix it.

have you been running moisture eliminator in your fuel? where have you been getting gas at? how low are you letting the tank get before filling it?

Loccusst

I heard that a couple of weeks ago there was some bad gas around town......never heard where from. But, there were some people with issues of their cars not running well. This was also at the time of the really cold ass temps. Moisture in the lines, low gas, and cold ass temps do not mix well.

Bringing my thread back again

So the R is at Jordan right now in the capable hands of Pete and they just called and said my coolant temp sensor needs to be replaced. I have heard of several others having issues with the sensor in their R so hopefully that will fix my problem. Yay warranty work

Pete is a cool dude. He came up and congratulated me on my purchase and recent coming over to the VW-side last time I was at Jordan. He is a good guy to have work on your car. I have known him for a long time....back in the naughty days of street racing. Him and that yellow rabbit.........

Yeah it sucked the last time he went to BOTI with us. His rear brakes seized up on him when he was racing in the finals. Of course my response was.....who needs rear brakes? LOL

Well, the new temperature sensor fixed my issue for two days, then the CEL came back a couple weeks ago. I finally got in to Jordan today and they tell me that my thermostat is bad. Ok, fine, but then they tell me they don't have any thermostats for my car in stock. Ok, so they will order it. However now there is no time to get my car back in until two weeks from now.

They did do an oil change today, so at least my car can sit around with clean oil in it :(

Sucks dude. IS it that they can't get you in? Because then the car should stay there and they should give you a loaner. My car needs to go back in too. I just had in for the alignment and I asked them to fix the rear lower side skirt. The one I asked them about last fall but they forgot about...well so did I . They put on some new M3 adhesive tape and it lasted for about a day. Now the thing is loose again. Oh well......that's what the warranty is for.

Its that they cant get it in until Thursday the 22nd at the earliest, and given that day I can't make it work until the following Tuesday, so two weeks from today. It's not that big of a deal, we do have an extra car so the R can just sit in the garage (would rather have it here in the garage then outside at Jordan), but it just blows my mind that they wouldn't have a thermostat in stock....

Loccusst
03-13-2007, 09:39 PM
That is strange......but the previous owners didn't keep anything really in stock. I hope they change that with the new owners. It's owned by Lithia Motors now and is called VW of Johnston.

Just tell them you require an RS4 as your loaner car

If they would do that they could take until May to fit my car in. :D

The S5 does have me slightly interested though, if my car doesn't start behaving by the time it comes out.....
