So in the shoutbox today we found out that many people enjoy shooting pool and we started kicking around the idea of having GTG's at a location where we can shoot pool.
Big Dog Billiards seems like a good place, they have a ton of tables (around 30-40 tables I think?) to rent by the hour (7, 8 and 9 foot tables), bar food and drinks as well. There is an over 21 side and an under 21 side so nobody would get left out. Its over on the east side of Des Moines (just off I235 on E. Euclid).
Another option would be Rock Bottom brewery, I think they have 3 8' tables in a room with a big TV and couches. They of course have food/beer as well. Rock Bottom is in West Des Moines on University Ave.
What does everyone think? Do people want to come and have a "PKG 9 Ball Tournament"?

I'd say Rock Bottom, if they've got a whole private room we could reserve. That way we don't have to split up into over 21/under 21 groups like we would have to at Big Dog Billiards (unless we all just hung out on the under 21 side, and no one drank). Plus, the food at Rock Bottom is better.

I'm down too, rock bottom would probably be easier for me to get to but that is not a absolute thing. oh by the way my teacher just asked what Projekt German was while I was responding she drives a VW :D

I don't think she is that into cars but she now knows about it :tu:
I'd love to do this, even though I'm not that great at pool. I just love playing.

I am all about pool. But, I dont like drinking and driving, and if I smell beer, i must have it.
I doubt any of my friends would want to be a DD.

Well, here is the problem with Rock Bottom, they have 3 (maybe 4 tables) there and its a first come first serve scenario. They also do a ton of rehearsal dinners there in that room. The option is there to reserve the room, but their rate is $750 to reserve it, not gonna happen.
We can certainly pick a night and try to go there, worst case scenario we move to Big Dog's, but just know Rock Bottom may be tough to get into as a group.
Of course if we only have a handful of people we should be fine at Rock Bottom as long as nobody has the room reserved already and all the tables aren't occupied by random other people.
Come on Justin, exercise a little restraint :D or we just all play over on the under 21 side at Big Dogs so we can't drink while playing....

There's also Johnny's Hall of Fame on Court Ave; they've got two pool tables at the back, right next to the jukebox, and they've got burgers and such. And I think 101 Lounge has a couple of pool tabes also, and pretty decent food.

Looking at the calendar it seems either the weekend of the 13th or 27th works, although I probably won't be able to make the 13th if that is decided. Other than that we are looking at November, assuming we want to do this when people from out of town could possibly make it.

Yeah the 13th is the Gong Fu Tea GTG in DSM, so I guess it's the 27th, then. Should we start a poll to decide the location?

I ate lunch today at Raccoon River Brewing Co. and noticed they have a few pool tables and you can reserve the space but didn't get around to checking the price to resereve the space, but just thought I would throw out the idea seeing this Idea kind of stalled.

Raccoon does have several pool tables and I used to play there quite a bit, however one night the manager there did something that caused me to never go back, at least until the manager is no longer there. Lets just say the manager is on quite the power trip. It has been almost a year since I have been there and I personally have no intention of going back.
I think it kind of got put on the back burner as we seem to want to get as many outside GTG's as possible while the weather is still somewhat decent. This is something that would be nice to do when its too cold to hang out outside. Its still on my mind, don't worry :tu:
