i recently had a rough spot with it repair after repair that cost me oh idk 500 within a week. so... heres how it went and what we ended up doing.

I drove this car for about 3 months with no problems except the lower ball joints being horrendously bad. i got some new ones from Vincere on this web site and put them in.

12 hours later the clutch goes out. so i ordered a new one for $175 it comes and is wrong so i price the one for the VR6 not the 2.0 and its supposed to be $618 so i throw a fit and get it price matched and THEN discounted to $159.99 YAY me :-)

so clutch goes in, destroy the stock cv shafts in the process (not a big deal since they were torque twisted anyway:cool: ). so i go to bleed the clutch and the slave cylinder is bad. so $100 for the cv shafts (for both) and $100 for the slave cylinder. its all back together.

drive it next day and clutch slips like crazy and it develops a massive oil leak. im talkin like 4 quarts a day.

so clutch comes out for the second time and i find the timing cover leaking. replaced the bolts and problem solved (dont ask long story). clutch is dry somehow and all clean so it goes back in.

drive it next day and clutch slips like crazy.

so clutch comes out the third time. warrenty it out for a whole new kit. put it all back together and drive it. turns out it was a defective pressure plate and now everything is great. :-)

p.s. if youd like to know how i got my parts so cheap... im a mechanic so i get a HUGE discount on parts. labor = my own two hands and my garage. :-)

You've gone through quite the headache with that clutch it sounds like, but at least you're rolling fine now. I hate ending up with parts that don't work. It's a good thing you can do all of the work on your car yourself or you'd be in for much more than $500.

We were calculating how much money PKG members have probably saved themselves in labor costs from all of wrenching/install days we've had and the number came out to somewhere around $5-6K. It's crazy what shops charge these days.

yea i figured it up just what my shop would charge and it was like 1300 dollars. id be glad to go to a wrench day and help people out.

oh i do :-) 95 in 3rd is a vast improvment over not being able to go over 80 due to torque twisted cv shafts. lol. now i can actually get all that power to the road.:tu: :D

$618 for a sachs clutch kit? don't most online parts stores have them for under 200?

rubberpenguin

well when you need it NOW your only option is a parts jobber... they all have it listed at at least 600

UPDATE!

this car has given me hell... yet somehow i still love the thing.

Oil pump went out this time... Enjoy the pics

Engine out... hanging on the hoist

The head was surprisingly not dry when we got down to it.

Crank checked out great as well
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn185/rubberpenguin16/100_0978.jpg

And here is a dead oil pump.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn185/rubberpenguin16/100_0977.jpg

before you all go yelling... i am aware the engine does not have to come out of the car for an oil pump... but seeing as i also did a head gasket and all that noise for the simple fact that i was tearing into it anyway... i decided to pull it... p.s. timing chains... NOT FUN!

Badgeless Grill
OE Bumper Set
Diamond clear corners
Diamond clear lenses

The new Headlights that were sent to me came in a smashed up box :censored:

I am actually glad it did because the housings were broken and were junk to begin with... so i took the time to take apart the old and new housings and switch the lenses... the outcome was WAY better than i expected even with all new housings. :tu::D

New tails are not here yet but more pics will be up when they get here in the next couple days.

more pics... i decided to clean it. half way anyway. (im ocd)

provided its sunny tomorrow i will post pics of the tails in... just a forwarning... they are ugly as sin... i HATE them.

the description and pics were nothing like what they ended up being. i informed the seller and they are giving me a 75% refund and i get to keep them so i will leave them in for now... about mid summer i hope to replace the shattered OEM one and then i will just smoke the turn.

so since it seems i never posted about how this car died i will give you a short run down. pics are posted of the little oil pump fiasco less that a month prior to this one... so you can understand why i would be so pissed off to find it dead once again. this time it was the front mount again... it snapped for the 3rd time! this time it took a chunk of the bracket and the whole front ear of the tranny with it. then as it proceeded to hit the hood it snapped 4/6 spark plugs and destroyed my shifter linkage. got it home and started tearin into it and pulled the top tranny to engine bolt and coolant just spewed everywhere. i was so extremely angry at this car i had to leave and go to leon to my farm to calm down... i wanted so badly to just destroy this car. got back on sunday and dropped the tranny the rest of the way out and was looking for parts and a welder.

:partay: i am overly ecstatic. after about a week straight of almost sleeping in my garage after work... this beast is alive again. i think she finally has a name... frankenstien. lol. finally found a welder to weld me a new front tranny ear and the top ear of the front mount bracket. decided i didnt want to do this ever again so i went ahead and ordered my poly mounts, new shifter linkage, replaced the spark plugs and rack boot that were destroyed and after once again dropping 500 + dollars into this car its now running again and i cant tell you how happy i am about it.

p.s. my wife lost my camera so as soon as i find it i will get you some pics up... too bad i didnt get any of it apart this time.

ok so here are some pics of my floorboard. what happened was it rusted out around one of the drain holes... so between me TJ and Cadwiz we stripped the interior, cut and patched the hole (after an excellent metal shaping job by cadwiz), and por-15 the whole floorboards. got done at 2 am day of rally for dyamond. so... heres some pics

The Hole

The binders are in on this one... we used a panel adhesive instead of welding and it worked Fabulously.

It took about a month and a half total. 4 weeks of sanding the paint and primer and removing the sound deadening pad and other prep.
