This is my car as of now, I bought it in Pennsylvania this summer from a guy who didn't really take care of it. This winter I am going to have bodywork done to fix the rust and take out a huge dent in my rear right door. Currently my lower front valence is off for painting and new fog lights, it's in Boise, ID.
My 528e is in Boise for the rest of it's life now. My grandmother bought it new and gave it to me as a graduation present, it's slow.

Upgrades:

TurnerMotorsport performance chip (tuned by Jim Conforti)
Eibach lowering springs (about 1.4")
UUC short shifter
BBS 16" RK wheels
Eliminated self-leveling suspension
Euro headlights

Of course there is so much more I wish to do, but I don't have a job.

Factory specs:

3.5L I6 24V 256hp @ 6500 rpm, 251 ft/lbf @ 4500 rpm
5 speed Getrag 280
3153 lbs

very nice M5 -- lots of similarities with my E24 633! those US-spec bumpers from the 80s really ruined the look of BMWs of the day, i cant wait to get rid of mine :td:

Haha, resurrect an old thread that I haven't looked at since I started it two summers ago! Unfortunately I haven't done anything to it since then, haha. Damn you skool (shakes fist). I will be at least taking the head off this summer, I will get a lot of pics up. I'm so curious to see how healthy it is, it doesn't feel 100%.

DarksideAudi: those eta's are fucking slow as balls, omg. At least ours is in great condition.

I finally got started tearing into the car. Right now I'm going through and cleaning up the engine bay and components. There are leaks of every fluid everywhere. So step 1 is cleaning. I've already taken out the injectors and sent them for ultra-sonic cleaning and flow testing. The valve cover and intake plenum will be stripped and powder coated. I will strip and paint a lot of stuff that is peeling and basically looks bad.

Of course I want to take off the head and have it rebuilt, but I priced it out with a guy who knows these engines and he guesstimated about $1300. He also offers port and polishing, want. So, idk what I'm going to do there. My cam box, which is separate from the head has a weld in it right at the gasket mating surface which is causing an oil leak. I need to price that out for repair, probably machining costs. Overall it just needs a good cleaning so that I can find the leaks and then attack them. Wish me luck.

Got the car back together and running, although I still have to hunt down an idle issue that is probably related to the idle control module. Here are some more pics. I really need to get a pro. photog. to take pictures though.

I had the injectors cleaned and flowed.

:withstupid:

It would awesome if you had an individual air filter for each intake tube. I dunno if thats possible but it would look sweet if it is possible.

I was thinking the same thing, go ITB style.

I thought about ITBs as well, believe me. However, I would think the a/f ratios would be uneven across the cylinders due to the cylinders in the rear not getting enough air. I guess that is why the air box was introduced. It'd look hella cool though.

what is your idle problem? Perhaps I may be of assistance. Jack.

The idle kinda jumps around a bit when it gets to temp. It'll go down to 500 or so and almost kill itself, then it will jump up to 1000 and stay there for awhile. I've been looking at the ICV, but it's getting voltage. I drove it this weekend on a long drive (400 miles) and got horrible gas mileage ~17 mpg. I'm now thinking that it's more like the car thinks it's in open loop like when it is cold. The o2 sensore could be going, I need to check it. Assistance is helpful.

Matt I could get you in touch with the guy who made the custom sized velocity stack filters that I got for my rabbit build.. It would only cost you $30/pair :tu:

My 535i is doing the same thing I think I am gonna check the O2 sensor. It does seem to be worse since it rained... oh well at least you are getting better mileage than me.

Thanks Casey, but I'm not going that route.

There is a vacuum line that runs to the inside of the car for the interior temp sensor that is a common air leakage area. I've already checked it once, but I'm going to check it again more thoroughly. If you figure out your problem, be sure to PM me or something. BTW, how long have you had the 535i?
