Well, I test drove it and fell in love. I definitely didn't give what he was asking for it due to a cracked windshield and quite a few rust bubbles. But man, did he hook me up with extra stuff. Here she is in all her glory when I pulled it in the driveway. I already took off the bug shield and front plate bracket.

Check out that cluster, yes that's in KILOMETERS! Pretty sweet actually. Car is from Canada. Temp is in C too.

The car came with all the following extra parts: MKIII Bentley Manual, 4 15" steelies with like new snow tires and VW hubcaps, roof rack, stock airbox, Eibach Sport lowering springs, a stainless resonator for the magnaflow catback, extra K&N filter, K&N Panel Filter, and some synthetic oil. And he gave me all the dealer maintenance records from day one.

MODS ON CAR:
GIAC Chip
Magnaflow Catback Exhaust
Turn 2 motor mount
Turn 2 CAI
Turn 2 Crank Pulley
Cross Drilled Rotors
EBC Pads
Supersport 60/60 cupkit
New bridgestone potenza tires on the stock speedlines
Optima RedTop
16mm BFI spacers

FACTORY MODS:
DE Steering Wheel
DE Shifter boot
DE Shifter Knob
DE Seats
CD Changer

I had planned on ordering coilovers for it, but with the cracked windshield I am just going to get a 60/60 Supersport kit for now. And some spacers ASAP!

You may be surprised how well it looks at 60/40. I'm afraid to lower my rears at all for fear I'll end up with reverse rake. But it is nice that the FK and SuperSports have adjustable rears. :tu:

I wouldn't mind having a skid plate for my car. With the new tires I have coming I will actually be sitting a little bit lower than current.

Mike, Chad's old GTI (my current one) had a SuperSport 60/40 kit on it.

For the skidplate, How different is the vr6 underneath compared to the 2.0?

I'm not quite sure. I've never really seen one up close from the underside. Maybe we can check this out at the Iowa City GTG? Well, wait, both cars will be way too low to peek underneath...lol :D

My old mk3 was lowered about 65mm up front and the oilpan was about 2.5-3 inches from the pavement. A skidplate would definitely help.

Got the suspension on. Looks great, but I can't drive it. :( I got it all buttoned up and took it for a drive and didn't check the clearance of the rear tires. The bottom tray of the strut gouged a nice groove in both tires. She's down for now until I can get some spacers. I'm really bummed, I think I ruined the rear tires. And the front struts are clunking, I can't seem to get them tight enough and I broke two allen wrenches in the process. I didn't get the VR lip on tonight either. Didn't feel like messing with it. I'll post pics of her tomorrow. :drive:

yeah, looks better, but I hope I can get the front struts tightened up more soon. And I hope the rear tires are salvagable. I took off one of the rears after the quick trip down the road lastnight and there was quite the gouge out of it. So I tried fitting my snow tires on to get to work today and they rub too. :(

DSV
08-15-2007, 09:47 AM
I still find it strange that the rear strut bottoms were rubbing on your tires. I haven't had any problem with mine with either of the pairs of wheels I have.

As far as the front goes, maybe an impact wrench would help? That's what I used on my car and it was easy breezy beautiful cover girl.

iadubber
08-15-2007, 09:49 AM
They are rubbing bad. And it's not like they are meant for one side or another. The kit is made to be able to put each strut on either side. I set it on the lowest setting though, if I would have left it in the middle setting I would be fine.

Looks great with those spacers, Chad! Any camber issues on the front? Looks like there's some toe-out.

Letting it settle then I will get it aligned. It's not too bad though.

Looks great with the spacers and the VR lip on. Some spacers for my wheels are on the future purchases list as well. How do you like the setup from BFI? I remember seeing the press release when they first introduced them.

a spacer is a spacer if you ask me. they had the best price offered at the time. Like 74 or something for the 16mm and I already had bolts so I didnt need to order them.

Here's a few more shots from yesterday.

That's one thing I regret about not having a VR6 (the 5x100 bolt pattern).

iadubber
10-11-2007, 03:14 PM
They suck to clean and aren't in the best shape. I am getting my old wheels back too so I'll have 3 sets of wheels by wintertime.

5x100 isn't all it's cracked up to be. 4x100 has some cooler options for dish and rare wheels.

True true, they're just not as accessible as all of these VW factory wheels.

You said you'll have three sets of wheels? Do you still have the fat fives then?

iadubber
10-11-2007, 03:36 PM
no, I will have 15" vw steelies, hubcaps, winter tires, BBS RXIIs, and the DE Wheels. Roni is borrowing those until his RS6 wheels come in.

why you don't put a white sidemarkerlight in your frontbumper? would look much better (my opinion ;) )

I would never do that. The rears are smoked, if I put anything in, it would be smoked. I HATE white sidemarkers.

I got a promotion and I think I want to treat myself. I just think VWs are getting old on me. I want a change. It's narrowed down to a Bug Eye WRX (number 1 choice), TDI MKIV, or an E30/36. So there's a chance I'll stay in the euro scene.

Nooooo!!.. Don't do it. Don't get a WRX they will only get you in trouble and never brake down on you.
On a serious note.
If you do decide to get a wrx all i can say is that you will love it, I used to own an 02 and i miss it every day the car was awesome and gave me no mechanical problems except busted gears lol but that was my fault because i was launching it at 7k with upgraded turbo and other stuff.

It has some boost leak issues but do what i did and replace all the hoses and that should take care of it. I cant say much more because i owned my for 2 years and i didn't have to fix anything. Now that is a nice car when you barely have to fix anything on it.
Check out www.wrxtuners.com if you want but it's kinda like vwwortex although you can get some nice info.
