OrangeDUB
08-23-2007, 07:38 PM
I think we should be able to use those public park grills, bring some charcoal.

I plan on bringing food to share (sweetcorn) but it's cheap for that so I expect that most people will be bringing food for themselves and some to share if they choose to :tu:

I think everyone is going to bring their own meat and we'll grill it all up on a couple grills at the park. This usually works out well. We just need someone to bring charcoal and lighter fluid. :tu:

It sounds like we are getting a lot of people from several different areas... I would just pick an easy meeting spot and put a stamp on it.

Also what about the route? Before or after lunch?

Mapquest is dumb at reading minds. I'm sure it's easy to get to if it's right off of 80, but I have never been to IC so I want to MQ to be sure where I am going. Or use my VZNav to tell me where to go.

Okay; the address for City Park is:

John2.0T
08-28-2007, 05:59 PM
35 is way too many....

There is no possible way you can get 35 cars in a line to stay together for ELEVEN MILES.

I've never been around the Sugar Bottom area but I've heard quite a bit about it and it sounds like it is busy and popular on the weekends - there will definitely be traffic.

The group will get split up, people will be driving fast and passing to catch up, calling people to try to figure out where they have to go, etc. etc. etc.

If you get a group of cars driving fast on twisty roads to catch up, what happens when one car is pushed too much? All of a sudden the steering wheel is turning one way and the car is going the other... not many people can prevent panic and recover in that situation. In the event that an accident would happen... what do you say? PKG will come up somehow. Club will be in deep sh!t. This is my #1 concern... spirited drives are extremely fun but it only takes one little mistake to really make it a sh!t show.

The only way its plausible with this number is to split everyone up into AT LEAST 6 or 7 groups. That means you need 6 or 7 LEAD cars that have the route memorized. Right now we have 1 or 2?

I know I sound "too serious" and anal about this to a lot of you but I would feel horribly guilty if anything happened to a member of the club or the club itself. I have attended 5 drives in MN and WI and organized 3 of them. Just saying my 2 cents....

MrFlippant
08-28-2007, 06:12 PM
Like I said, I completely agree that 35 cars is too many. I wasn't thinking in terms of the number of cars, I was thinking in terms of awesomeness of route. But having so many cars together will MORE than make up for that! :D

And also like I said, for those who want it, the exact address for City Park is 200 E Park Rd, Iowa City, IA 52245.

berserker
08-28-2007, 06:19 PM
i agree 100% percent with every word that john said....

So then, as the GTG is approaching faster and faster, what are we going to do? Do we have 6 to 7 members familiarize themselves with the route to lead in case of a split up? Or do we choose a different, less-traffic-prone area?

vrjetta98
08-28-2007, 07:45 PM
this route is very simple there is absolutely no turns in it what so ever it should be easy to know where your goin none the less there is one intersection that would cause a problem. Lots of traffic and that intersection is the one in North Liberty which is a busy four way stop on the weekends and that is the only problem. Which we could prolly pull some shinanigans and have somone get out of the car and stop traffic and then follow the group technically, but that is not the greatest of ideas.

With 30+ cars maybe we could corral the local law enforcement to help us out

In all seriousness, that is the kinda stop that would break us up and would call for 3+ leaders.

vrjetta98
08-28-2007, 07:52 PM
i forgot there is one turn but that is all it is also in north liberty just up the street from the stop sign but very easy to remember plus how many of you guys have gps systems that you could borrow cause we could use those to or use a sign if we need to. A very easy read sign like sugar bottom this way and actually there might already be a sign there if i remeber right I am not sure thought i am gonna go drive the route tonight and ill check it out and make sure

Alright guys, let try to keep this on topic, but this will prolly get lost, but i have updated the first post as well

New PLAN:

We are no longer doing a "PKG Cruise" to the Sugar Bottom Park.

I know the flaming is going to begin, but the staff has been discussing this event and we have came to a conclusion that a cruise with over 30 cars is just not SAFE. You are more than welcome to have a safe caravan to the park or after the official PKG event you can cruise all you want..

The OFFICIAL PKG event will be a GTG at Sugar Bottom Park, make sure to bring food to grill and we will have a grand ol time.

We will plan on meeting at Sugar Bottom at 12 noon!

The address for the park is 2192 mehaffey bridge rd, solon, ia 52333

We ought to all of us line up in the drive through and then just park in a neat little row right where the drive through workers can see us while we eat.

Well, my car needs a new Tie Rod End so I won't be driving the S down. However, I helped Damir do his timing belt today so I will be making the drive down with him.

I had a great times guys. Not really sure why there was seperation between the East Sider crew and everyone else the whole time(our cars are better but not that much.....lol...JK)...I'm sure as I get more comfortable around everyone I'll try to be a facilitator and bring thigns together (I guess all of us East Sider Guys know each other and most of you central Iowa guys know each other... Maybe we should all know each other?)

Loved the cars, food was okay, LOVED THE CARS, met some new people that have the same interests as me and made some new friends.....LOVED THE CARS!!!!

Anyway you slice it this meet goes down as a good one for me. I wish I would have known that you guys went for a cruise/photo opp...I would have definitely gone with you and given some rides out to people who wanted to feel what 2 turbos kicking in feels like....

OH.... one last thing, the 2 R's I saw today confirmed my worst fears....I really wanna sell this money pit and pick up an R32...God those cars are just so me when they're pretty much "bone stock" (no way in hell knowing me would I leave it that way) but god, so sexy!!!

Good seeing everyone and I look forward to the pics

About the cars being better???? ....lol....Just kidding. This is still a fairly new crew for me. I'll be a better facilitator in the future....Until then you can all think of me as the "official smart ass"

I had a great time, and I agree I wish I could have introduced myself to more people. Like Dan said, as we get more acclomated with people it'll get better as far as the state divide goes. I posted my pics up in the pics thread.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the state segregation. Next time we just need to locate a larger shade tree! I had a GREAT time. Time to start thinking about an fall drive along the Mississippi! :drive:

Had a great time! I'm kind of a quiet person, so I didn't really get around to meeting everyone, but it was pretty cool to see everybody and check out the cars.

Definitely a great event!
