I highly reccomend this show.

PKG has a lot of nice cars and tons of potential to take home some awards. I have had this show on my calendar since last August, but unfortunately will not be able to go due to family plans.

BTW, 332 mi and about 5 hours 16 mins from Des Moines. :tu: I've got the entire week before this event off, so I'd definitely like to go. Plus, Chicago is close enough for me that I could still make the drive back home on Sunday.

Drag Racing
Saturday Evening – Byron Dragaway

6:30pm Dub Club drag class races

10:30am – 11:30 am judging for Club Class

I haven't even been to a friggin GTG yet this year other than lenny's this past weekend but I haven't been to a show at all... Would a caravan be in order or since we're all scattered from where we're coming from should we all try to meet up there?

Maybe we should have some kind of trademark on each of our cars other than the pkg decals to signify our club...

I think it would be good to have a caravan of all the cars going over there. Depending on when we leave, we could even stagger it out on Friday night. For example, Des Moines/Ames people could meet cars in Cedar Rapids, then that group could all go together to Chicago. This is a short enough drive that we should be able to manage it.

Well, here is where it talks about competing (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3321985) in the DCI (Dub Club Invitational):

In order to be eligible for invitation to the Dub Club Invitational each club must meet certain standards as follows:

1. Be registered as a Not For Profit Corporation or Club with your home state.
2. Operate as an ‘open enrollment’ club, allowing anyone to join who wishes to do so (provided they meet any applicable, club defined, car ownership rules).
3. Be able to field an entry in each of the 3 D.C.I. events – Autocross, Drag Race, and Car Show.
4. Receive an invitation to the event by the Chicago Volkswagen Organization.

The registration fee is $90 per club.
The deadline for this event is Friday August 10th, so pic your cars wisely!

Invitations are on the way out this week. If you believe that your club meets the eligibility requirements, and want to get involved, please contact me at pb3vr6@yahoo.com, subject line "Dub Club Invite"

I, personally, was thinking that the club would just attend the show, race the auto-x and run the dragstrip. I wasn't figuring on us competing in the actual invitational. Perhaps with a bit more planning on our end we could compete in next year's event? That's just my opinion though. It's up to the club to decide.

As for the shirts, I'm guessing that we ought to have them by then. I will do some checking to make sure though. I don't know if we need something special to be able to sell stickers and shirts at the event, but I know we won't have that many extra shirts once everyone in PKG picks over them. We SHOULD get lots of cards printed up though. That is a must.

That sounds like a great rate for the hotel. I would say we should reserve two rooms. Would you like to call in and make the reservations? (I know you'll be on PKG all day today ;))

It would be great if you want to do a bit more research on the event to help answer some of these questions though. From what I remember of one of our last meetings, we basically appointed you to oversee events for the club and you're doing a good job. :tu:

From reading the thread on Vortex, it sounds like the guy only blocked out 15 rooms at Baymont and that they should all have two double beds. I think two rooms ought to be enough for the number of people we'll have going. 6 people per room is still plenty of space. :D

As far as banners go, I believe the kind that Loccusst was talking about was one that we could hang up (like the vinyl/canvas type), not banners for our windshields. However, if you can get us a vinyl sign to hang, that is even better!

Yeah...I imagine we will have plenty of room to spare. The cool thing is once you figure the amount of people staying in the room and devide the fee by that...it drops the cost for the weekend to like 40 bucks a person to stay for the weekend. Probably even less than that......

I don't think the car show will be quite the caliber of Waterfest or H20 with all of the different show classes and such. I think it will be more like Trashwerks/Volksport where everybody just shows up and parks. However, I may be proved otherwise when more information is released.

Yeah, we're not going to do DCI, it just doesn't make sense at this point anyways. We don't need to compete for club points and get slaughtered, lol.

word. I wouldn't mind getting some PKG coverage in mags, but participating in the DCI is basically a separate part of Treffen. Everybody else can still run auto-x, drag, show, etc. without competing for DCI club points.

We could always go over there to eat as well. The last time we had a big group of cars try to meet up at the mall the rent-a-cop came by and shooed us all away. If we meet up at Wal-Mart and then go to the mall once everyone arrives, I think that would work out.

And that's totally fine. I'm not going to make a bunch of people stay in your room because you reserved it yourself specifically so that there wouldn't be lots of people. However, the two rooms that Loccusst reserved were picked knowing we would have extra people sleeping in them, so we will stick people in those rooms first.

Plus, it sounds like Steve and his gf may not be going, so that just dropped our attendance count by 2 anyways. I'm betting we will be fine. Once everyone shows up on Friday and we get out on the road, then we'll know exactly how many people to accomodate. :tu:

How much does it cost to enter your car in? My car is just a DD but since everybody else is entering theirs i'll do it to. Whe should probably find a place to wash our cars and get them cleaned up just think about all the bugs that will be on our hoodz and bumperz.
