View Full Version : Mk2 build up... Almost running...
I guess i should share my ride eh?
(On a side note, i would really really appreciate if none of my pics end up on the Vortex... I dont promote that website, nor do i care that they know what's going on with my car.. Thanks! ) :tu:
I got my car a little over 2 years ago.. it was a stock pile of poop... :tu:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/mle02/my%20car/IMAGE0049.jpg
Lowered it with 2 inch lowering springs, did single rounds.. yadda yadda..
Put TH lines on it and drove it to Seattle for Waterwagens...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/mle02/my%20car/waterwagens2004_0462.jpg
That was a wicked trip... I'm from PNW originally, so when i go i hit up all the cool stuff... :)
Broke many things in the time i've had my car.. including cam shaft.. that was really wicked... :tu: It's now a proper paper weight.. An awesome one, i might add..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/mle02/my%20car/IMAGE0033.jpg
Then i blew up an 8v... put another in... (yes, they do blow up, and no i didn't get pics.. :( )
Did a bunch of cosmetic crap.. got some wheels shipped from Germany, the ones i have now... Those were a royal pain in my ass...
This was how it was sittin when it started to undergo major construction 2 months ago..

Then it sat like this for awhile...

wow nice car, i love the rims btw. lets see out of the ordinary. first off was it originally a v6? cause that looks an awful lot like the mk3 vr6 engine. and then i might see a turbo all the way in the back??

I was gonna say dif motor (vr6), but a turbo? You have really done something wonderfull to a car that needed a ton of love. The car hopefully will repay you down the line.

it is a vr6... but that thing in the back that you see is the Throttle Body..

oh and it'll repay me after this weekend when it's running...

Yay...it's a Mk2, and a much nicer one than mine! Can't say I can find the out-of-the-ordinary item you mentioned, mostly because I have never worked on the VR6 motor before, so all I know is the general appearance.
I've found that besides the differences in climate that tend to render some of the Mk2 cars "rusty", the 1990-1992 cars survive better than those before. I don't know if VW started using the galvanized metal process that Audi implemented but the 1990-92 bodies just stand up better, even in the mid-west. My 86 Golf came from Wisconsin so it has the typical mid-west cancer issues. That's one reason I'm looking for a 1990-92 shell.
Anyway, sweet lookin car. Wish I had a facility like that to work in!

hmm well u dont have a dash and it looks kinda undrivable, i guess thats outta the ordinary then :D
i think it looks perfectly street legal:D
alright....
The out of the ordinary, would be that nice braided oil return line laying in front of the motor.. And also the extra pulley by the alternator.. :tu:

Almost forgot....pretty sure Santa runs a sweatshop and heads up the black market. How else can he get ahold of all the cool "in" goodies that the retail stores are out of.
Aaaand if he is a member of this forum..........my dog typed this, I know nothing.
It's running now BTW... i haven't been online much.. too tired from holidays, work, and car... :(
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/mle02/my%20car/Picture1114.jpg
All that's left is puting the gauges back in, wiring up the MFA, heater box, and dash.. :tu:
edit: heh, it's snowing on my car. haven't seen that stuff in ages..
the jetta looks amazing! i bet you're glad to finally have it all back together and running now. i can't wait to see this thing up in Iowa! :tu:
BTW, your rims are effing sick with that huge dish. :D what brand are they?
im thinking maybe we should be doing the same stuff to DSV's ride! Just tell your wife she will need to get another job and you guys can no longer afford a college education for kids to be:tu: :D

thanks. They are Zender sports.. Discontinued over 10 years ago... :tu: That i know of, there is only about 4-5 sets in the US like them, including mine.. Two of mine actually came from Germany, right outside munich.. They were a pain in my ass... :tu:
Honestly, i'm thinking about getting widened steelies... I'm worried about bending these wheels, and i'm very protective of them.. Widened steels are cheap and easy to buy others..

wow, that is awesome. i'd probably be afraid of hurting them as well if they are that rare. maybe just throw em on for photoshoots and stuff.

haha, no kidding. just paying regular bills and getting into this house in april is draining us. we don't even have money to save for future kids, lol.:D

mle -- it's nice to see someone doing these things with GOOD taste. BTW aren't you in Phoenix? I was just there the other day, in San Diego now but I'll be back in Phoenix/Glendale/Sun City (parents') on Wednesday. I like it a lot in the area.. seriously thinking about buying a house o.O

yeah, i'm in Tempe.. It's ok out here.. People that live here all year are something to be desired.. It gets real hot here and real estate is kinda shitty at the moment, to be honest... It was really really good in the end of 05 and beginning of 06, then took a big fall... :td:
If you decide to buy a house here, i can give you some advise on some of the local vw shops.. The people into vw's here are meh.. There is a scene here, it's rather big.. BUT, only a few of them are cool.. For the most part everyone has their own little cliches they hang out with.. I am just kinda a floater and am not part of any cliche.. No vw clubs either.. they would never survive.. :tu:

Those VW shops also Audi shops? :p
Are there any good auto tech schools around here? I'm thinking more and more about going to UTI to be an Audi or BMW tech...

yeah yeah, same thing..
do you really wanna know my opinion on that school? :D ;)
If you are coming from an auto background and just wanna try to get into something, then sure it could be ok... In the auto industry, it's more of who you know, not what you know... Thats why i got out. :tu: :D Now it's strickly hobby..
edit: Sorry if my posts seem grumpy, i'm pretty tired.. I just re-read what i wrote.. i'm a jerk. lol

I have a few friends who've been to Wyotech and UTI.. didn't like either of them. I'm just looking for better income, taking 2yrs (isn't it?) and coming out certified then working at an Audi/wherever dealer seems like easy money IMO. I love working on cars and can see myself doing that for a long long time given that it'd make a decent living.

I agree, I used to work in the automotive world and it is all about who you know. Hell, the service guy at Jordan is a perfect example. He doesn't know shit about vehicles. I have tought him everything about the MKV GTI. And the questions he asks me about electrical stuff is hilarious. LOL
Edit: I just rememberd that I still work in the Automotive world. I am now in charge of the install bay at work to go along with my other three departments. "Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!"
iowaboostin, if that's what you wanna do, more power to ya.. :tu:

Yeah, I haven't gotten pulled back in.. I dont think i will... :D
My first roommate when i moved to phx is a good example.. He went through UTI, got into the BMW program (he did nothing but school and work; you have to have a perfect attendance and driving record).. He has a good job now, because he secured one at a BMW dealer before he even went to school... If he hadn't, he'd be makin like $10 an hr at some lube shop.. :(

So anyways.... Nice A2! I can't wait to get back to work on mine. Small garage and cold weather has really slowed my work down.
