View Full Version : Clicking noise

Here is the thing. It seems that whenever I'm going 80 in 4th, (or going 4-5k rpm in any gear) and I let go of the gas pedal, few seconds later something clicks on my front left side. I thought that it might be the junk in my door panel tray (like perfume, papers etc), but I took it out and it's still doing it.

@Loccusst,
you know that blue Jetta that had the clicking noise and we found out that the motor mount was the cause...mine sounds somewhat like that, but I don't feel it under my feet or is it that bad.

It's as if a small rock hits the exhaust pipe - "ping" sound. Now, a rock can't hit the same place several times in a row.

So, 4-5k RPM, let go of gas and sooner or later I hear the "ping" or click sound...

Any ideas?

There's been alot of bad wheel bearings maybe this?

hmmm...good suggestion. I'll take it into consideration.
even with 6800 miles though?

Oh, might have answered my own question. I just hope it's that. Might be the heat expansion, since I AM kinda going 4-5000 RPM. I'll have to do some experimenting.

And Vortex is your friend (although for Touareg)

Motor mount? I guess it's something you'd have to hear yourself. Does it sound like it's from the engine bay or suspension?

Damn son, how long have you had ur car? I thought we got ours around the same time and I have just a lil over 2400 miles on mine.

I got mine three months ago. First week I've been everywhere with it. I went to Wisconsin just because. More than once a week. I've been to DSM numerous times for pointless reasons (well, I go just to drive). I've calmed down a little now, and it's only to work and girlfriend.

Yep it can happen anytime, some of the passats had it happen with only a few hundred miles. Search on the B6 forum on vortex its been talked about several times.

I get the feeling it comes from left side wheel or in that area. Doesn't happen all the time though. Only when I'm in 4-5000rpm range. I did 60mph in 4th, and let off the gas, as soon as the engine started braking (it kinda jerks when the engine brake engages), the ping was there. So I'm suspecting its the mount at this point.

your bunny is DBW, right? Could be the throttle adjusting... maybe... I have no clue....

well you should be able to rule out the wheel bearing as your hearing it in any gear at 4-5k rpm. you are covering quite a range of speeds there for it to be the same noise and be caused by the wheel bearing. however. seeing as you only have 6800 on it... why have you not simply taken it to the dealership and had the problem solved via the free warrenty you got with the car? if thats not an option i might be able to help i have heard the same noise from my buddies jetta. if this is a 1.8T and you are doing higher rpm and you A)Downshift and engine brake hard or B) let off the gas and engine brake... we found the noise in his to actually be the turbo. he had the money so he just replaced his with bigger and better, problem solved. my old 98 beetle 1.9TDI did the same thing every time the turbo bearing went out. which by the way went out 3 times from 1998-2005

Have you tried to re-enact the sound at different speeds and in different gears?

I have a similar sound on my A4 and i'm pretty positive its a wheel bearing. More noticeable off throttle in 2nd though.

This is I believe due to fast heating of the exhaust pipes. When I don't punch it, the sound isnt there. When I do, 5000rpm in 2nd, adn then about 4-5000rpm in third, the sound is there.

Possibly an expansion of the metal due to fast heating?

I get a weird clicking noise from the passenger side of my car when it's idling. If I rev the engine it goes away but will come back like click.......click............click...CLICK..CLICKC LICKCLICKCLICK.
