Hello All,
I ran into a few of you guys in Ankeny this weekend and loved your cars. I have been a European car fanatic for years and it's great to see others with the same interests. I spent the last year working in Europe which only strengthened my confidence in their engineering. My last car was an E46 323CI and now I've got a TT. Thanks for putting this whole thing together it's awesome! What do I have to do to get one of the PKG decals?
Also... I'm putting together a strategic race across Iowa. It's called CornBallRun and it's August 4th. There will be all makes of cars there, but I would love to see some German Ladies show them all how real cars are made. So put it on your schedules. 1 start/finish line, 10 locations around the state. You choose the order and the route. First one to all 10 and back takes home the cash! The website is horrible right now, but hopefully it will look better soon. www.cornballrun.com

Well they don't advocate speeding. ;)
My 240sx might have to make an appearance. Where does it start at?

Last one started and finished in Windsor Heights. This one probably will too. Depends on how many are signed up by mid July. That's when I will set the start/finish for sure.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
staff@cornballrun.com
or just look me up here. I'll probably be here every day.
Welcome to PKG, Jared (this is Mike from SubComm ;))
I didn't know that this username was you. I think what you're doing sounds like a lot of fun and I hope we can get some of our cars/members out to your event. Just reading your website made me want to go watch Canonball Run and the Teckademics Gumball Rally 3000 DVDs.

I believe the rules state the winner takes 70% of the entry fees. (Check the rules to be sure though.)

I would say there is always the dependability issue if his car is modded but then yours has broken down several times also....lol. I imagine they start the slower cars first.....you should be way at the front. lol I kid...I kid...lol After all I would be right in front of you if that was the case.

two cars that win the most unsanctioned road rallys are the Maserati coupe and the Morgan Aero 8...fast light and reliable...although the ferrari is also a decent choice she made the 7 hour run at 80-110 to indy even went 400 miles on her first tank of fuel

The reason I am asking on the prize money is because I just don't see this being worthwhile until the pot hits at least 1k that would at least cover the necessary oil change and detail with a few hundred to blow on booze and drugs I feel that would be the magic number to at least get me interested but to do that you would need over 30 entrants

it honestly looks like they had three cars show up last year...which would have been 157.50 not even enough to cover a ticket

I might have a fuel ecomnomy problem. Only a 15 gallon tank with 1000cc injectors. Can I get a gas station map? Haha.

I am going to keep an eye on this we will see if by end of july it is feasable
I would need over 10 entrants at the 50 dollar mark to make it even worth considering. So if 10 forsures are in count me as number 11

I am down for all those too but, the wear and tear, gas, oils, and etc it will take to beat the piss out of my car for an afternoon, would be nice if I had a chance of winning some decent monies!

Yes, I know the website is VERY lacking. We are working on that. Hope to have that problem addressed very soon.
Haven't wanted to spend much money on this event, because it's about the cars and the driving. Not the money.
Mike was correct. First place payout is 70% of all entry fees.
Second place... well.. if you're lucky you might get your picture on the "VERY LACKING" website.

The first run was put on at the last minute and more of a trial then anything.
This one will be more organized and promoted. I have several people willing and already helping me. As well as an organized plan for promotion/marketing.
I do hope to have well over 30 entries in this race. Hopefully soon the website will be rebuilt, and at some point in time I will start posting the entry numbers. However... if everyone waits to see how many people are entering, then I will be there alone.
I do understand the concern about compensation for the miles, fuel, etc... but you have to remember two things... First, I am not doing this for money. The point of this is to enjoy some very cool cars, and some very cool roads around our state. Second, you only get the cash if you win... I'll get more then 30 people there, but then it's up to you to beat them.

We'll i'll sign up when you get the new site and stuff rolling.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear that you guys are interested! Tell everyone you know about it.
If you are coming, don't forget to visit the website and get pre-registered. It'll save you $25 on the entry fee, and only involves one email with your information. All entry fees are paid on raceday.
And hopefully I will start listing the registered cars on the website, so you can see the competition.

Thanks again!!

I'm not sure the last time you guys looked at the CornBall Run website, but it's changed a little since the beginning and I've just recently made it a more simple to register. Go to the sign-up page and send an email with the listed information. http://www.cornballrun.com
Also let me know you think of the knew site... It's not the best, but a lot better then the first one.

Many of you have asked... "How many people showed up to the first event?"
Well, the truth is... 3. The first even wasn't planned. I came up with this idea sometime in April. My first thoughts were to try and get everything done and have the event June 16th. It took longer then expected (I am doing this entirely on my own), so I cancelled the June 16th event and started planning for August.
Unfortunatly I forgot to change the date on the website, and the Thursday before June 16th the two brothers driving the Porsche (check the results page), called and were on their way into town. One from Iowa City and the other from Chicago... They already had their hotel booked, they bought priest costumes, and everything.
So... I hurried up, picked 10 locations, went to all of them on Friday, took pictures, handed out a few flyers, and put on the race Saturday.
That's why there were only 3. I know... long story.

We're starting to get a few people signed up..... and it looks like we will have a good turn out.
So lets see some PKG guys signed up! To get registered, you just have to send one simple email with the following information to staff@cornballrun.com
Driver Name
Birth Date
Home Address (city & state only)
Mobile Phone Number
Car Type (mods?)
Everyone who registers this way will have a discounted entry fee of $50 to be paid on raceday.
Thanks guys.

I have a concern.
- 07 Chevy Cobalt SS (Stage 3 SuperCharger + Exhaust)
This guy is the one helping you hand out flyers and is your friend. To my knowledge. Whats to say he doesn't know the route in advance since he is helping you, I would also assume he is helping with the route.
Just a concern of mine as it would severely hurt the rest of the field, not to mention ruin future CBR's.
Even if he isn't helping with the route he should not be allowed to participate in my mind as he has the opportunity to know the route, since they are good friends. There is no way to prove he doesn't know the route, and if by chnace he does get in first place I can guarantee people will be very upset.
There is just to many shady things that can happen since hopefully a decent amount of money will be up for grabs.

First of all.... I don't even know the locations yet. I will not choose them until the week before the race. Once they are chosen, I will be the ONLY one to know these locations.
Listen... I am going to all this work to put on this event by myself. I am getting no $ for this. My address and phone number are available to everyone participating. Why would I do something to ruin it? Not to mention having everyone else wanting to beat my ass.
Next... The Cobalt and I are not good buddies or long time friends. We are acquaintances, and I was aware that he knew a lot of people downtown. For this reason, I asked him to talk to his buddies about it. He offered to take me downtown, and hand out some flyers on his own. That is all.
Fair enough. I just wanted to put this out there so people knew the truth or your side; as there were some rumors going around.
