My 07 Rabbit just got ordered this week.
The factory in Wolfsburg will be builidng it starting the 5th week in 2007, so thats like the frst week of February. The earliest I can prolly expect it would be May, which would be right around my birthday.
Here's how I ordered my custom Rabbit
- 2 door
- 5 speed manual
- Black exterior
- Black/greyish interior (I think there's only one choice)
- Center arm rest with iPod adaptor
- No ESP, just ASR
- Steelies
Here's what I want to do
- 17" snowflake design VW wheels
- R32 tails, with euro coding for the turn signals
- Color matched side mirror turn signals
- Color matched side markers
- Shorty antenna, Im thinking going with a shorty and not a shark fin
- Badgless front grill, I want to see if I can get the hood worked on at a body shop so the area thats cut out for the badge is seamless.
- R-Line shifter knob, if it fits
Eventually like to get
- adjustable coilovers
- Short shifter, whenever they make one for 5 speed
- 4 point steering wheel, The new passats have them, but I bet theyre pricey.
Id also would like a 95-99 4 door Toyota Corolla. I want a car I can take out to gravel/snowy roads and not have to worry about destroying a new car. As much as people may hate Toyotas on here, those older corollas could go through hell and back.
When I get more information on my Rabbit I'll post it. Like when they actually start to build it, when it leaves the facotry and such.
thats pretty awesome man. it will be exciting for you to get a brand new car that was custom ordered. what did the final price tag end up running?

I'm also curious on the cost, and btw I love Toyotas :) First car was an '83 Toyota Cressida, RWD and 160hp inline-6, the thing could take a beating. If I ever need to buy a new reliable car then it'll be a Scion tC, can't beat the Toyota VVT-i engine for $15k.

i do kinda like the tC's for some reason as long as its not riced out

It's probably the most spacious 2dr car I've driven...
ANYWAY, /hijack :)
CadburyRabbit
12-18-2006, 07:06 PM
final price is in the range of 17,000
The very basic model is 15,995
center arm rest is 200
iPod adaptor is 100
ESP would have been like 500-700 bucks, I forget
And theres a delivery charge for custom ordering one which is like 600 bucks
So around 17,000 without tax and registration
Tha Rabbits are getting hard to find now, theyre not sending many to the midwest, mine was the only allocation the dealership got for the month of december.
Also what would you guys think of a speciality licesne plate that said "lol gtg"
I think itd be pretty funny, if my car was fast of course.
Lastly I heard that they aren't coming out with Golfs in North America, cause the Rabbits are the Golfs, its jsut a marketing scheme. maybe this is old news, but its new to me.
oh, I guess that wasnt the last thing. Should I get a "N" and an "A" letter in GTI writing for my car. so the back could say 2.5NA instead of 2.5T, cause im not there yet.
Loccusst
12-18-2006, 07:30 PM
I say debadge and make em guess.
2.5NA, i kinda like that. i remember reading about the whole rabbit/golf thing. it makes sense though with the GTI basically being a souped up rabbit, whereas before the GTI was a 2 door golf.
Gee Tea Eye V
12-18-2006, 10:19 PM
lol gtg = neeeerd alert:puke lol
imho i dont think many peeps will get the 2.5 na dbadge it
and someone was selling their badgeless golf front end on vortex, looked sweet

I prefer to have som bades on the back. Plus the mk 5 VW logo doubles as the hatch access. So you kidna have to have that. Maybe I could get a GTI badge and make it look like the old 20th anniversary GTIs, with the chrome rabbit next to the red GTI.
Or maybe I could just drop in my 97 VR6 engine, so I could put a VR6 badge on it. Or I could shoot myself instead of going through the hell of doing that.
Im thinking the most likely outcome that I will reach for my hatch emblems is leaving them stock.

when i finally got the order put in back in december, they said the production on it would start until the 5th week in 2007, and now I guess it's finished, own its way to America, houston to be exact, where they'll do some port installs, and then ship it to Cedar Rapids for pick up.

hehe, i know. it came off an old 300ZX. the best part of the hood scoop was the day it was ripped off by the wind while driving down the highway. all of a sudden there was a large bang and something hit my windshield, but i didn't know what it was. it wasn't until i stopped at the gas station and saw the silicone adhesive outline on my hood with no hood scoop that i realized what had happened, lol.

oh and on the topic of cars, my mom was almost about to get a new R32, until we realized that they werent making any with a manual transmission.
yeah, i think its completely bogus they aren't making any manuals. i bet they will do a limited run of manuals after awhile though. they HAVE to!
Loccusst
02-15-2007, 12:05 AM
You might be right DSV....but they are only making like 5,000 R32's to begin with the first year. I would suggest anyone who wants one better start dealings with the dealership now. Atleast to get your foot in the door.

yea the dealer who ordered my rabbit for me said that if my mom wanted an r32 to talk to him soon cause no one has claimed their allocation. Each dealer in Iowa is getting one R32 apparantly. I told him that she would want one if it was manual, and he made sure and found out that there werent any coming out with manual transmissions. So if anyone wants an R32 I can talk to the guy in Cedar Rapids and try to reserve it for you
Gee Tea Eye V
02-15-2007, 12:50 AM
i coulda told u there werent any coming in manual. but r32s are racing cars for the most part and the dsg shifts faster than manual makes sense to me to make the dsg. could they make more money off manuals...maybe...but i think the 5000 they are bringing will have no problem selling to people that want to make them into racing beasts
Loccusst
02-15-2007, 08:24 AM
I think it also might have to do with the fact that they could only fit the dsg attached to the smaller V6 in the engine bay. They wanted to put the 3.6L in.
CadburyRabbit
02-15-2007, 04:31 PM
Im thinking of getting those R32 tails for my Rabbit, you think you could vag com it Jeff?
^^ Loccusst can do it. He's got VAG-COM. Those tails would look slick on your rabbit.
Gee Tea Eye V
02-15-2007, 05:28 PM
u can plug and play the tails as far as i know, but if u want the functioning rear fogs etc, u need the euro switch and loccusst to vagcom it for u

I dont really want the rear fogs, I dont have any need for them.
I might want to get front fog lights though, and then Id have to switch out my light switch, cause it doesnt have a fog position in the Rabbits.
Gee Tea Eye V
02-15-2007, 10:43 PM
then u might not need to get vagcomd
Loccusst
02-16-2007, 01:28 AM
Vag is for the rear fog and also for the center turn signals. You also need to do some wireing for the center amber turn signals. This will give you the solid red circle when brakeing all the time, even with the turn signal on. I can probably do some other really cool stuff for you. Like turn of the daytime running lights, window open/close with remote...stuff like that. Maybe when we celibrate you getting your car we can mess with it.

Hahah cool. Yea im thinking of getting the R32 tails from TMTuning that come without the rear fogs, so I have dual reverse lights. From what Ive heard though, I could be wrong, but I thought with Vagcoming the R32 tails you didnt have to rewire anything to get the solid red circle with the center amber turn signal. Thats what I want. I HATE cars that have red turn signals, especially those trucks that the brake light doubles as a turn, cause then if some one is pumping their brake and signaling sometimes I dont know what theyre doing
So again. I want the little amber cirle on the outer set to flash when I signal, and the red rings to only light up when Im breaking, and then the small white cirlces on the inner part will only light up in reverse.
Im also thinking of getting the foglight kit for the rabbit on OEMPL.US. but I wish I could just get the US light switch, cause I dont need the euro one with a rear fog switch, if any one could find this for me that'd be awesome.
EDIT-
Along with that tail light thing, rewiring things gets me a little skidish cause dealerships could be really gay and decided that it voids the warranty or something. Probably not likely, but still a chance I dont want to take.
Gee Tea Eye V
02-16-2007, 06:07 PM
a) they cant void ur whole car warenty because u rewired ur tail lamps, the only way they could do that is if they proved that ur tail lamps were the main reason ur car failed which im almost 100% sure it wont be so i wouldnt worry about something petty like that
b)what ur describing with a big amber turn signal and a small brake light would prolly be the most retarded thing ever, esp since its the other way around. the big circle is red for breaks and the small inner circle is amber for turning, which makes more sense no offense but having bigger turn signals than brake lights would just be unsafe and not somethin u can prolly do with vagcom
Aka.Beave
02-16-2007, 07:15 PM
i really hate to say it but i don't really care for the styling of the new .:R.. i Just don't see the sexyness of the car like the 2004 had.. also, no six speed? why don't you just bend over so i can stick this champane bottle up your ass because that car is going to be pure homo! i mean seriously, yes it might be faster, but nothing beats banging gears when you are beating the $hit out of something! **** THAT!
P.s. COOL CORROLLA! i wish i had some pics of my old beretta.
Loccusst
02-16-2007, 10:50 PM
You do have to rewire the rear turn signals. Pretty easy though actually. Move one wire from one pin to another then pop in another one where that one was and then tap it into a wire. Use the vag com and voila...amber turns and solid brake lights. Also, DSV is correct on the arranty thing...plus if someone like me does it who is MECP certified it is kinda hard for them to throw the warranty card at you.

"little amber cirle on the outer set" as in the outer set of the pair on either side, so like the outer small circle, not the ring. It must have sounded confusing.

And car dealers are notorious for trying to screw people over, so I dont want to give them any excuse at all to void anything. But...

Jeff, if you think you can do this and make it look as if none of the wires were tampered with then it doesnt sound too bad. I was afraid you were talking about splicing wires and crossing them and what not. Just plugging them into different pins in the harness is pretty clean and easy.
Also with the vag com, does it keep a history of the changes that you do? So as if I were to take it in to the dealer for something, they couldnt see what we had changed right?
Again, Im just paranoyed(sp?) with dealers and giving them any excuse for anything. Im also not planning on doing any performance modification to my car. The most would be a short shifter, if/when they come out with it for the 5 speed, and shorter suspension, but thats not really engine performance, just handling.

I like this back end, Id have to get a new tail pipe to stick down, but I like the clean look. And I'd want it to be color matched, which I think TMTuning would do.

these are just stock numbers u might have to order the headlight switch from a dealer to make the fogs work, im sure u can find a used one on vortex or theres a website like... undergroundvwparts.com or something that sells parts off of totalled vws they have posts in the mkv parts forum all the time where u can buy anything off the cars so u could just buy the lighting switch from a wrecked mkv gti
only thing that sucks about TMTuning is I hear it takes a LONG time to get parts because they come from Europe.
those all look like some great choices though. :tu:

Those all look to be some great starter mods that will really clean up the look of the car. :tu: What are you going to end up doing for wheels? I remember you ordered your Rabbit with hubcaps and steelies.

ummm no.
Im gonna save some money or something and try to get some VW spoked rims. The BBS ones that I like are the wrong kind of mount. I want 17" spoked rims, silver color. I could do black if it looked baller, but I dunno. If any one has any ideas feel free to shoot them at me. Here's what I want. Multiple spoked rims, no gapping spaces between the spokes, no dish on them (i dont like the dish look), if theyre gonna be black then I want it all to be black, not with a silver rim around it.

any one got an idea for tint? Im thinking maybe like 15 in the back three and like 20-25ish in the front two. what do you guys think. And I really have no idea what the tint percentage would look like, all I know is 5% is dark as ****. And I want it to look fairly even all the way around, so slightly illegal in front is fine.

25 is extremely illegal, but if ur gunna make it illegal might as well make it worth it. fronts are 50 in ia i think, some say 70(why even have tint) and yeah it would be cool to have it be dark like that in the back but it starts to impare ur vision at night (like backing up and ****) around 25

yeah...i have 20%...and it is a b*tch to see out the back window at night...

Apparantly Iowa fronts are 70%, which I swear it was 35%, a lot of the smaller population states have 35 but not Iowa.Who knew.
The back windows are unlimited.
I know on my moms car the tint in the front is illegal, she's gotten a ticket for it, and its pretty dark, gotta be around 50% in the front.
The back windows are darker, and I can say that I dont have trouble looking out of them at night. Ill have to firgure out what tint is on that car cause that's about what I want.

Its because the lawmakers for Iowa need to get out of the dark ages and realize that the tint at 50/35 isn't that dark and saves the interior of the car/keeps it cooler during the summer.
The last time I read the laws it was no tint in the front and anything in the back. Iowa is strange.

I've had an Iowa State trooper tell me nothing in the front and can be as dark as you want in the back. Which I don't understand. How does a 2% back window protect them even if the front is not dark. You can't see anyone fidgeting around with as dark as possible in the rear. But whatever, I'm gonna keep breakikng the law, cuz I love my tint!

:dito: Exactly, their reasoning besides they say we can't see at night (must be blind people because I could see fine with the 35% I had on my old car) is to protect the troopers/police when they approach the car. If you have 2% on your back windows they can't see crap when walking up. :dunno:

All the sites I could find online said 70% up front, maybe the cops ment nothing on the windshield which is the law for every state I believe, but I can see that. One site said that it has been 70% fronts, and 0%backs, since like 1985.

yeah! the tint laws are 70% in the front....that is the NET %
that means if your car comes with, lets say 80% from the factory...you can only put on 10% film....
so mike is pretty much right...you cant have any tint really on your front windows because from the factory, most cars sit at 70%

On the issue of Tint - Jess and I had 35% on the GTI and GLI both and we each got pulled over for it - they measured at 26% with the gauge. So stock is not 70%, already - more like 90%.
