Hey everyone I have always liked cars and my favorites are mustangs and volkswagens I started out my driving with and 89 dodge spirit which was a hand me down form my grandpa and sister. I did minor stereo mods to that but it basically just fell apart huge paint blisters and you could slam the trunk and rust would just fall off (it was a minnesota car for a long time). after that was shot I got a 2001 hyundai tiburon which was okay just couldnt mod it much to my likeing. I then saw a 1995 mustang gt at jordan motors and just had to have it. Traded in the tiburon and was happy. I slowly added mods to the stang like magnalfow mufflers, custom xpipe, hi flow cats, cold air intake, 18x9 chrome cobra r rims, cobra front bumper lights and fogs, custom installed 96 cupholders and moved over drive switch, full 2001 bullitt suspension kept front sway bar(it was better). as time went on it was starting to nickel and dime me and the gas consumption was bad.
I kept seeing the GTI commercials and fell for it instantly drove over to jordans and test drove a black magic two door but didn't have the money at the time so had to wait. Then in march i finally decided to trade in the stang and get the GTI. went to jordan, now lithia and saw the four door setting up front and thought the lines of it looked good and to me at least slightly better then the two door plus it is more practicle for me. Since i got it I have only put on eyelids but once the mod bug gets me I will probably do more.

let me know what you hear about the group buy, but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to replace springs since my car is still under warranty?
Gee Tea Eye V

the only thing that will void is ur shocks/spring warrenty then
and i dunno if the group buy would work since we all have different coils, but give it a shot :tu:

got my pkg decals not sure where to put them. Narrowed it down to rear side windows or side skirts infront of rear wheel from what I see in the gallery most are in the windows but a couple are in other spots. My side skirt isnt that big (its stock) but it would fit but it may look wierd just looking for suggestions thanks.

well I haven't updated this in awhile :D so I have lowered the GTI with some nuespeed springs and guess just been making future mod plans like usual just a little more practical now, may put off getting a bug :dunno: let me know what you think of some of my ideas.
I have been thinking about dual exhaust for awhile this would probably be custom and something like this.

yeah the more I look at the pics the more I lean toward the TSW's plus they would keep in tune with the color on the HUFF's plus I could afford them :D thanks Casey
I'm digging that dual exhaust setup, as well as the painted plate shield and TSW wheels. I say chop them all onto a photo of your car so we can see what the total package looks like. :tu:

Hows the ride quality with the neuspeed sport springs? I think I may be going with springs now to get less wheel gap, its so hard to have a car thats pretty low, and go to something with as much wheel gap as the A3 it just dont look right.

neuspeeds ride really well but are alittle bouncy with the stock shocks. handle much better and get it in a proper stance untill I can save up for the coils :D

well first off a Job is still needed but as usual I am always looking and planning for upcoming mods :D and this is the direction I have been leaning further and further towards. I'm sure some of you have seen the photochop in the shoutbox but figured I would update my build thread for once and get some feedback on the plans as of now.
not sure how much longer my stock shocks will handle being lowered so I have been looking into Coilovers pretty sure its going to be Konis as they ride like stock and lower it decent. I'm looking at coils so I can set them were I want and not be limited by spring shock combo.
wheels I think I have found a place that will custom drill 5x112 and any backspacing I want but I might need some help with this in the future :D
I would like LED tails but all the ones for the MKV's look funny to me so I will probably just stick with .:R tails and last on the cosmetic list would be a votex front lip, there may be more custom stuff in the future but at the moment I am still working on my exhaust so nothing till thats done
once I have everything above somewhat done performance is next on the list. Larger intake piping and Boost pipes, CAI, and noise pipe delete. Then maybe a Chip in the future.
anyways those are the plans as of now, let me know your thoughts suggestions.
here is a rendering of what I am thinking

A word of advice, if you plan on a spring/shock combo, DON'T keep your stock shocks. They will wear out a lot faster, and since you're replacing springs anyway, might as well do the whole kit and kaboodle, which coils will take care of for you. ;)

yeah I already went down that road and realized I should have done both at once but figured I'd save some cash and let the shocks wear out faster :D pretty sure I can go another 15k on the neuspeeds before I will "have to" replace them so I will upgrade instead of just getting better shocks I think I'm going Koni coils. Thanks for looking out though I learned my lesson lol hope I can get these mods moving soon :)

Haha, I just re-read this thread. I'm also very confused about what I was talking about...it was a great winter vehicle btw.
On to the mods, I really and digging those RHs, but I actually prefer the stock wheels on the GTI. They just go so well with the rest of the car. Of course I'm voting for Koni coils and that dual exhaust setup isn't dilling(word?) my pickle.
Otherwise I like the direction you're going, good luck scraping together the funds.

yep I have seen those, but if I went with FK I would go for the Silverlines as they are adjustable. But I think when I have some money saved up again I am going with the Koni Coils by STaSIS Engineering, Koni's go pretty low and ride really nice from what I heard and with the STaSIS set up you don't need to worry about getting the shocks adjusted correctly
They still have adjustable height
07GTI
05-12-2009, 03:41 PM
They still have adjustable height
yeah sorry I ment the shocks and struts have adjustable dampening, but I see they are set up by FK to match the MKV so maybe the wouldn't be so bad
lenny
05-13-2009, 02:14 AM
I've honestly come to the conclusion that dampening rates don't mean much unless you're absolutely dead nuts on a perfectly handling car. What are the spring rates from your old setup and what is the travel distance compared to your new setup/setup you wish to get.... Name brands, purchase price, and overall consumer opinion (especially in the VW world where everyone loves the comma coilovers when in all honesty, they're a waste of resources) mean jack shit....
Three things to worry about when buying a coilover if you don't race day in and day out:
1. Spring Rates..... high rate= buy a pillow to place in the bucket seat
2. Suspension Travel..... Cars with more travel tend to handle better
3. Warranty.....I got 2 years warranty
Do your research. If all you are looking for is a sick ass stance then save your money... Lets face it, we live in Iowa and none of us will see hard track time. Find something that rides nice, gets the stance you want, and has a great warranty for a decent price....AKA... if you spend more than 600 you're not trying hard enough
-Dan

Really?!
Sounds to me like he is definitely doing his research by NOT making an impulse decision on coils and has a grip on the differences between his top choices.
If you knew his old setup, you would know that the coilover kits in consideration are an upgrade, and are solid choices :).
Sounds like you didn't read his post and do your own research.
Definitely excited to see the GTI coming along Jason! Keep us updated ;).
How about cup kit's as an option? To be quite honest I don't think I would ever adjust coilovers if I got them, I'd find a comfortable ride height and leave it.

Lenny could you show me what options there are under 600$? I haven't been able to find much outside of those 2 kits.
Me personally, I plan to drive my MKV a lot, I have a couple 18 hour road trips coming up and I'd prefer my back not feel like I just railed a fat chick when I arrive.
H&R's touring kit has a nice 1.3 drop, and ride quality is supposed to be maintained.
Otherwise, I'd go with a setup like Locusst. FSD shocks and some sport springs. But that would put me well over 600$.

yes I have been doing my reasearch :) at the moment the stock shocks on lowering springs does a decent job, got it lowered and handles allright. The worst part although very small part is on rough roads it can be a tad bouncy. Once the stock shocks/struts go I need an upgrade for sure, wether that will be just upgrades shocks or coils I'm still up in the air. I have some time to decide and continue to research. I lean towards coils cause the springs drop it nice but I may want to go a tad lower. But cupkits aren't out of the question, but I have searched and found that it seems like the Koni Coils would suite my wants and needs the best.
Yes I most likely will find a stance I like and never change it but I want that ability to set it perfect. And yes the dampaning is not a huge deal I just didn't realize it was setup already on the FK's and I always thought if you didn't like the ride it woudl be nice to change it if needed. The StaSIS kit (Koni's) has the dampening already set too but allows you to change it if you want unlike the FK's Sam had posted.
now maybe I will have the cash saved up and change my mind but I'll be sure to post up question when it gets closer :D

well been a tad bored while looking for a job so i was messing around in photoshop and came up with a few future possibilities. Also thinking about what else I might do, just fun ideas though not sure I'll do them all or not. Might even find a project car, 68 Mustang Fastback
Ideas are as follows but in no particular order :D
Lowered on StaSIS coils and a few wheel color changes.
Interior will have a AWE boost gauge, and upgraded HeadUnit possibly with GPS
Under the hood there will be Neuspeed intake, Hi-Flow Turbo Discharge Conversion Kit, and Hi-Flo Intercooler Pipe Conversion, upgrade the DV. Then maybe stage 1 chip not sure which one yet.
