I bought my MKIV AWP Jetta new back in the December of 02. It is an 02 GLS with the cold weather and sport package. I opted against the GLX, because I thought power seats were unnecessary. It took me nearly 3 months to track down a Jetta with the correct exterior/interior color, and manual transmission. After driving and researching both the 1.8T and VR6, I felt the new 180HP AWP 1.8T had a lot fo potential for tuning. My Jetta came stock With 17" Long Beaches, which I really liked.
I started adding goodies in January, as it sat in the garage for most of the winter months. So far I have done the following to it:
Neuspeed Sport Springs
Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts
ABD Badgeless Grille (removed)
GLI Front Valence
GLI Rear Valence
Votex Side Skirts (prepping for paint)
GLI Exhaust System (removed)
Eurojet Turbo-Back Exhaust
GLI Tails
Joey Mod GLI style Headlights
Smoked Turn Signals
Smoked Bumper Lights
Uni-Black Color Matched Emblems
Sharran Stubby Antenna
Suntec HP-50 MB tint
Thule Aero Bars
Thule Velo Vice With Seperate Wheel Mount
Thule Fairing
TT Short Throw
18x7.5 R32 Ronal Aristos Wheels With 235/40/ZR18 Falken FK452 tires
8mm Front / 20mm Rear H&R Hubcentric Spacers
15x6.5 Avus Wheels With 195/55/15 Bridgestone Blizzaks
ECS Tuning Stage II Sachs Clutch
ECS 7lb. Aluminum Flywheel (removed)
ECS 14lb. Steel Flywheel
Carbonio Cold Air Intake
N75J Valve
APR 91/93 oct. programs with V-tune (Increased Boost)

Nicely done, I love the Thule rack!
Your car is amazing. It was great to see it in person at the T&T GTG. The HP-50 tint really compliments the car. Can't wait to see the Jetta with the new Votex sides. :tu:

I'm praying that the skirts come tomorrow, so I can stay up all night wet sanding and painting them to be ready for the rally. At least my wheel bolts will be in tomorrow so I will have something to do.:D :tu:

I put the front spacers on this morning and 8mm looks poyfect!!!
I had to run over to the dealership because one of the wheel bolts was insanely over torqued. Anyway, when I got there the service rep was pulling it into a stall and grinded the gear a little bit trying to go into reverse. He got out of my car and his face was allll red and the tech's started laughing at his ass. I totally played along, and was like " I can't believe you just did that to my car, I'm never going to come back here again; and your gonna pay for that!!!!" acting all furious. After an akward pause he was about to apologize and I told him I was fu(king with him, and that it does that sometimes. He laughed, as he had just been pwned hah.

Service Rep - 0

LOL I think it looks alright with or without the rack....but since I road bike daily, it is one of those functional things, not just for looks. ;)

O i know. It does look normal with it, but without it, it's so fresh and so clean. :)

Sometimes it doesn't turn out so funny. The last time I went to the dealership I bought the W8 from (which was actually the last time I went there) the service manager ran the car completely over one of the arms to the hydraulic lift (the arms that go under the car to lift it off the ground) as he was backing it out of the stall.
I was FUMING. I confronted the service manager about it but he acted like nothing was wrong. He was damn lucky that he did no damage to the car.

I'm sorry to hear that. I never take my car to the dealership for anything, cause their is a great local shop in town that only works on German and Swedish cars. I didn't want to hassle them to only help me with a wheel bolt so I used the dealership. But while I was there I name dropped PKG to a guy that was buying an Ipod adapter. He said he used to own a TDI Jetta and a GTI, so hopefully he will join up! :tu:
Update: The skirts didn't come in the mail today, and I doubt I will get them tomorrow, but if they do I will be running on nooo sleep for the rally ;)
I like it with the bike rack. I've always thought cars looked cool with a bike rack on top. It's kinda like, hey, I do something that's good for me, what about you, loser...

UPDATE
__________________________________________________ _________
Well after waiting for two months, my side skirts finally showed up. I went with Votex to because I love the OEM look, and they match up with my front and rear GLI lips pretty damn well. When the brown man showed up I was all over his leg.:hump:
The Good:
I did a quick test fit and they were right on held themselves on the car without screws or glue....

I have decided to sell the car as is, meaning will all of the current mods, except the roof rack, because well that will fit quite nicely on my next car.:)

I may have asked you this before, but why are you selling, Steve?
I don't really want to sell it just because of the time and money I have put into it to make it what I have always wanted it to be. I think after the side skirts are on it's going to make it harder for me to let go, because realistically it's at the point where I feel I have done all the mods I have wanted.
But what it comes down to really, is it will pay off a good chunk of my student loans. I will still have my daily driver (Nissan Pathfinder) in the mean time. So I will probably drive that while in search of my next hatch, which could take a while to find the right one.
At that point I will have the credit to get into something I have always dreamed of. My initial plan was to already have the Jetta sold by now, and be in search or possession of the hatch but certain circumstances have set my timing back a little bit, but unexpected things come up in life and sometimes you just gotta deal.
So look for FS thread in a few weeks, first here, then the tex, then autotrader, and the DM/CR newspaper. I just hope it goes to someone that will treat as well as I have. :(

and u never sold me the wheels, and i want your entire GLI kit lol.
DubWalkn
06-05-2008, 03:21 AM
Buy the car your can have all the parts you want! even a 1.8T swap!
Honestly though, I've decided against parting anything out because my valences and wheels are OEM, which will help my selling price.

Just sell your car and buy Steve's, it's an amazing Jetta. SO sexy. If I had the W8 paid off, that would make an awesome daily driver for me, and save the dubya8 for the weekends. :D :tu:
If not, hopefully another PKG member will snatch it up so it stays in the family. :)

I really not to set on a price yet....
UPDATE:
-Oil Changed today by Greg at Carousel (coolest guy ever, he has a 20AE)
-Greg also gave me a free scan and cleared my airbag light that Carousel originally told me would cost $90 for the scan, and an additional $400 for the module!
Did you ever get around to that photoshoot?
DubWalkn
06-07-2008, 04:07 PM
I was planning on it but I was convinced by a fine young lady friend (who turned out to be more than just a friend later that evening) to go downtown and drink Patron and pineapple backs till I could not walk. So no photoshoot yet.
EDIT:
Deja Vu, the same exact thing happened last night to except I think some Jameson was involved as well...I am currently hungover.
Haha. Sounds like you had fun. Too bad we couldn't get a good run because of the traffic.

why did u put the 14lbs flywheel instead of the 7 on?

The 7lb. aluminum flywheel had A LOT of chatter

That's pretty normal... was the chatter not worth the reduction of rotating mass?

In my opinion no, after driving the car with the OEM flywheel (21lbs..I think) to the 7lb. aluminum flywheel and now the 14lb. flywheel I don't think it was worth it. I prefer the current setup I have now over the other two options for those considering these options in the future. :tu:
