okay so I've been rubbing for awhile now and haven't really had any problems until the other day I was driving through Kohls parking lot and hit a nasty bump then heard some nasty noises only to get out and see some hoses wrapped around my tire and this box rubbing on my tires. I kept going on with what I had to do and now today I finally got a chance to check things out...

this is located behind the fender lining on the passenger side (mk3 2.0)

apparently I've been rubbing quite abit

and I also rubbed through the wires and all hoses that attach

mainly just wondering what it is/does and if it's something I should fix right away or not worry about it. I haven't noticed anything that effects the driveability

thanks for the help

My guess is that might be a carbon canister, I don't know where those are at on mk3's

That was my first thought as well, looks like something that might be part of the evap system.

that is the evap carbon canister and vent valve. check engine light will be annoying but not pressing.
