I RE DID MY WHOLE FRONT END AND WHAT NOT, BUT NOW I HAVE A 16V SITTING IN MY GARAGE AND I KNOW HOW TO BULT IT ON BUT WHAT ALL DO I NEED TO CHANGE!?

I WAS TOLD TO CLEAN OUT A GLI AND DUMP IT IN MY GTI!!

I'M SOO CONFUCED!! I NEED THIS DONE BEFORE SoCal Euro GTG!!

I'VE HAD THIS CAR IN HIDING FOR OVER 6 MONTHS....EVERYONE'S ANXIES TO SEE IT!!

First of all I need to know what are the 2 cars we are dealing with, your car and the donor car. Year, model, engines of both so that I can figure out what we are working with.

Generally when doing a conversion, the engine wiring harness and management will have to be transfered to your car.

The more deviation you have between the engines and management the more difficult the project becomes.

I've never seen an impossible swap. :tu:

My Gti Is A 92 8v

The 16v Is A 2.0 From A 91 Passat!

engine mounts should bolt from your car right to that block. then just pull the computer and wiring also. the interior wiring is identical to my knowledge so you just need to swap the engine harnesses.

What are the trans codes from both cars. 16v's generally use a different tranny also and since you will most likely have it out why not ahve the more fun tranny also??

EEWWW... switching from Digifant II to CIS-E, where do I start?

1.You will need to transfer the entire engine management, fuel pump and related parts and front engine wire harness.
2. You will have to use your GTI transmission.
3. Without me spending more time looking up parts on ETKA, inspect clutch, especially the friction disc as it may have a different sized center hub.
4. Swap engine mounts as needed.
5. Fabricate intake air and exhaust as needed.


If you can, I'd be looking for a wrecked early 90's GTI that came with a 16V from the factory. This would make the swap MUCH easier.

Search the forums/google as I'm sure there are a lot of people that have done this relatively straight forward swap.

you can use the engine and tranny out of the passat, just grab the shift cables, pedal cluster and clutch master cyl and bracket out of the car as well. no need to switch EFI systems, your in calli so going to cis from DIGI II is back dating and illegal when it comes down to smog. you will need injectors and a 16v fuel rail. you can probably get by with the injectors from your 8valve and just bump fuel pressure a little bit or find some g60 injectors. motor mounts stay the same shouldnt be a difficult swap. theres alot of posts about runing a 16v on Digi II and what all is need and who makes chips for that application. good luck and if you have any more questions ill be around this board more often now that ive signed up
