This W8 owner just put these wheels on his car, and the wheel gap is sickening:

The wheels are 17x8 O.Z. Superleggera, 35mm offset; the tires are Michelin pilot sport 225/45zr17.

Now, I bought OEM Audi A6 Pie Plates...17x8, 35mm offset. Is my car going to look like this if I put them on? I'm sure the tire size has something to do with it... Plus it makes it look worse when he put side skirts on his Passat.

And no, I am not lowering the suspension. I'm scraping in some places around town as it is.

Like I said, if you stick within the stock overall diameter of the tires, your car MAY end up looking like that. Basically, the wheel gap shouldn't change at all when going from stock wheels to aftermarket wheels if you choose your tires properly. You could put bigger tires on to close the gap or just lower the car.

How much bigger are we talkin? It'll probably look like a 4x4 for sure.

That I can't say for sure. Plus if the tires go bigger, you throw off your speedo. Let me find the tire calculator.

Here it is:

Punch in your stock info and then try the different aftermarket sizes until you come up with something that is close to stock. :tu:

i think bigger tires would just make the car higher...

dude that is insane, i'm on stock suspension still and my gap isn't nearly that bad. my wheels are the same diameter as my stock ones -- so it looks alright

I'd be happy my car sat at the same height as yours. What tire size are you running...the wheels are 17x8 I assume?

It's gonna be 4x4. There's no way around it if you aren't going to lower it. Lower yours and learn to negotiate dbq roads. I drive around town in a 60/40 cupkit and don't have too many problems. Where the hell do you scrape at?

When I used to work at the Hampton Inn PT, I would scrape ALL the time on the entryway. There are a few other places with steeper inclines as well.

It's all about diagonal entry, my friend. You can't take any incline head on with a lowered car.

Those who are lowered learn quickly the skill of angle entry.....it is a mandatory skill.

Chad how does the car drive in the winter (as far as being lowered and going through the snow)? Or do you not drive the Jetta in the winter?
