Well today I'm gonna be doing a lot of maintenance junk to zie Audi. Most likely you'll see my next post being "f*ck this car, I hate it." because I have the worst luck with this kinda stuff. Something WILL break, I'm calling it now. To top it off, my Bentley's manual on CD is no longer working for whatever reason and my tools were stolen last month so I got to go buy about $200 worth in tools again. Here are the parts for today:

Timing belt (tensioner/roller too, duh)
A/C belt
PS belt
Alternator belt
Water pump
Coolant flush with Pentosin lifetime
Thermostat
Valve cover gasket
APR snub mount
710n diverter valve
OEM paper filter

I WAS going to also do the Seafoam treatment, oil change and new NGK BKR6ES plugs but of course ECStuning messed up my order and the oil isn't here yet (yes I'm picky about my oil, only Pentosin 5w40). Overall this winter I've spent about $800 in maintenance before even touching the performance, it's required a LOT of patience. Once I'm done with all this stuff then it's off to saving a ton and going mod-crazy in the spring ;)

Godspeed!

Good luck, seems like it's gonna be a nice day for it.

you're definitely going the right direction man. good job on doing the maintenance before tearing into performance stuff. at least your car will be in tip-top shape for when you start modding. :tu:

hope everything goes well.

Are you still alive or are you swearing up and down looking for replacement parts for the one you just broke? LOL

Sooo yeah, that kinda sucked. My friend who was gonna help ended up being sick as hell. A different friend let me use his garage space but he didn't really help, just held some pulley's while i unbolted them.. other than that I did everything by myself--took FOREVER.

I got the timing right on the first try, though a few things went wrong and yes I swore a lot. First off one of the fender bolts had to be drilled out, then the jack arm fell over and scratched my driver fender REALLY bad. The thermostat took about 25mins alone cause it was stuck (even had water pump out and was trying to pry the damn thing out). So I get all this done, turn it on, I put the coil-on plugs on in the wrong order (who knew?) then forgot to tighten the intercooler pipe to the turbo :p Oh, there's more.

Today I'm driving back home and the upper radiator hose took a hike, lost all my new G12 coolant. I was running about 90% water I'm guessing until I changed it again today (extended life is all I could find on Sunday, replacing with G12 from dealership again tomorrow). The water temp is at about half on the gauge, a bit higher than normal, and the oil temp is about 200 degF but doesn't go over (still 5w40 though, can run kinda hot).

Can you tell I used to be a DSMer? How ghetto did I set this up, old batteries and a vacuum extension, bahaha:

Another thing. I think my turbo is on its way out. I had oil STREAMING out of my lower intercooler pipe, yikes. Time for a k04 or t28 and a FMIC maybe?

you can use almost any turbo man go to www.full-race.com they make manifolds for your car in any turbo and WG flange you want I doubt you have room for an SC-51 or anything but since you are a DSM guy I am sure you know about some of the FP turbos available

I'm TIP transmission, hate auto trans but I bought it so I wouldn't mod it like CRAZY, maybe 270ish hp :) I want it to be a quick reliable DD, k04 seems to fit that perfect.

well at least being a dsm'er at heart you wont have to fix this one QUITE so much...but close

i have a buddy that was real into DSMs, and i dunno how many times i've seen those damn things tore apart. they're fantastic when they are running, but 95% of the time, they aren't - lol

^ So true.

If I were to get a new project car it'd be another DSM, hands down :) I've been through a lot with those cars, kinda hard to part with them completely. I love the Audi though, gonna stick with this for a while.

Well I have a pretty decent coolant leak.. have no flashlight so it's hard to tell where it's coming from. It's coming from the thermostat housing area, yet that part is dry--meaning water pump gasket most likely :( I get to tear this fickle bitch down again. While I'm at it I'm gonna change the oil, seafoam and spark plugs though.

"F*ck this, I hate this car." :D

I have no garage at my house but can normally use my friends shop.. only problem is it's 20miles out in Dunkerton, boo.

Yet ANOTHER update. Found out that leak really was coming from the water pump. It was only a running leak, just dripping once every 30 seconds maybe. I crawled under the car and just touched the bolt with a wrench and it started leaking like crazy, I thought I cracked it :(

So what's a dedicated Audi-an (more like scared to be late for work this morning) do? I tore off the front of my car AGAIN. Took me about 2hrs last night but well worth it, somehow one of the bolts was just loose :) Now I can make it to the GTG w/GOVAG for sure.
