I have been looking online for basic molded black carpet to put in my 1993 Cabriolet. The prices seem to vary from $99 - $200. I was hoping someone here has purchased replacement carpeting and can suggest which ones are better? Links please!
Also is the mass backing a must? I plan on putting that roofing material that is similar to dynamat in as well if that makes a difference.

you'll need some sort of carpet padding over the dynamat otherwise the carpet just isn't going to settle right. its going to be very hard to find carpet for a cabriolet since they're not as common, but MK3 and MK4s are pretty much the same....i'd try to find a set out of another car. try to save some of your original padding so you can use it as a template to cut your new pieces.
reason being, automotive carpet is moulded, and if you lay it yourself like you would house carpet, its very difficult to shape and to get it to settle right. if you can't get carpet out of another cabriolet you may try finding carpet from a standard golf and trimming the rear pieces to spec since the front will be the same, which is going to be the part thats the most important.

Did it on my Cabriolet and it wasn't too hard. Get the molded stuff and definitely put padding underneath.
