This is Hm Murdocks (Robert) and my Dune buggy. I've been meaning to get one of these up but haven't so I figured starting a post would force me to get some pictures to put up.
Well this beast started life as a 67 ghia 1500 single port that we bought for 275 with a brand new battery and it ran suprisingly. Body was shit as was the tunnel and just about everything else. So we bought a warrior frame kit off of berrien buggies for 300 and whent to town cutting the shit out that we needed. I'll post picks as soons as I can get my hands on them and Robert if you have any either put them up or get them to me some how and i'll though them online.

And the gay ass fenders are no longer on there we just put those on to get the thing titled.

So is that street legal then? I see plates and brake lights/turn signals. If so, I'd totally drive that to work during the summer!

Ya it's street legal. But it shouldn't be it burns as much oil as it does gas and the front beams are rusted to shit sorta scary to take it on the highway and it barely does 70. Were planning on fixing some of these problems after I get outta school. Such as 2100cc dual port with twin weber carbs, new front end, possibly a bus trans, and biger tires.

As for the getting the plate on this beast it was kind of a pain in the ass. There is a whole list of different things your car has to have then you have to get it inspected by the DOT. The inspection was surprisingly easy to pass they realy only looked at it for like 5 minutes then stamp on a VIN and give you the title. So it's registered as an '08.

Good job on repurposing the classic german engineering but always remember that the loss of another Ghia, no matter how ratted out, makes the baby Jesus cry.

Tj has some, they are a blast to drive. Can't wait to build the new heart. Also found passenger side ball joints are so worn you can visibly see the spindle move by hand.

What is it classified as for being street legal, and what were the requirements?

as specially constructed dune buggy. This is the pdf off the IDOT site for requirements.

Took it out today. Found that trans is either having syncro problems or the shifter is out of alignment (again). But it fired right up like a champ. I love that car.

In its current condition not worth much more than scrap price. But its way too fun to get rid of. I'm Robert and I have a dune buggy problem...
Frame came from a company in MI. It came jig assembled we just had to finish welding all the pieces together. Then everything else is custom designed(bumpers, seats, lights, wiring, brakes, etc)

Was 300 when i got it in 2006. http://www.berrienbuggy.com/id35.htm
Engine, trans, front/rear suspension is supplied by a donor car. Small side note the ghia rear suspension and body mounts are different but still work. They just push the rear hoop back a little. Which moves the castor a bit.
Lee you want to build one because they are awesome and racecar
