Try searching on Vortex? Somebody with a VAG-COM could probably help you out. The dealership probably won't tell you anything unless you pay them to scan it.

Doesn't look like a valid code using the Jonathan Rowry DTC code lookup site. Check your code and try again.

I switched up the numbers because I'm actually blonde!!

here it is.

Any elaboration?

I'm trying to be a master decipher with abbreviations but it's just not working.. something to do with my fuel injectors? Or is it a sensor associated with them shorting out?

Your fuel injector's circuitry (for cylinder 6) is shorted to the battery +...

Check all the wiring, and lastly try replacing that injector... You could try swapping with a known good one off someone's engine.

See if that fixes it, that way you don't need to go out and buy one right off the bat.

that must be the wrong code and i was right the first time with 2181.. because i don't HAVE 6 cylinders, lol!! odd. everybody is gone for the day already at the service dept. at the shop so i guess i'll wait till monday unless anyone else has any other insight? i'm 99% positive that it read "2181"..

its not running any differently, and i'm not noticing any loss in power or peformance.. not running ruff or bogging or anything remotely different than how it ran before the light came on.

any other thoughts guys??

how did you read it? vag-com or generic code reader.

berserker

it was a generic.. all i had around.

have a shop or someone with vag scan it. there are plenty of people on here with it.

That would be a code for "coolant system performance". Basically you should replace your coolant temp sensor, and possibly thermostat. I had the same thing in my car, they replaced the sensor first, it came back and they replaced the thermostat and that finally fixed the issue.

hi and thanks for checking this one out! this volkswagon is
intermittantly setting a code. our scanner will not give a
code decription nor will our alldata. the code is 18613 (on
snap-on scanner) and code 2181 (obd global scan tool). we
cleared code once and it took a few days to return. any info
on this code would be greatly appreciated! thanks again!

____________________________ FIX ___________________________

thanks for all responces and sorry for delay in closing this
request. we replaced the coolant temp sensor and code has not
returned. hopefully our database will be updated soon with
these new codes. again, thanks!

VW should replace it with the "new and improved" green sensor :)

I believe P2181 would be a coolant temperature sensor. I had to replace mine and I think I had the same code number. At VW dealer sensor is about $10 and they want $120 to replace it so I did it myself and if I can do it anyone can do it! Just make sure you get the new green cap sensor not the black cap! I hope this helps.
