So I hand washed the Audi for the first time this year yesterday and found a ton of little specs along the back and sides. They looked alot like little spots of rust and I was pissed. So I decided that I would go get a clay bar and see if that fixed things. I am extremely happy with the results, now I just gotta wax the car...

Great results Usac. I was removing the dealer sticker from the back of the Passat this morning and noticed the same small specs. Now I know what I need to do. :tu:

I am wondering the same. Auto parts store I presume?

I got mine at a nearby Autozone. They had 3 different kits to chose from, one from Mothers, one from Meguires and one from a brand I didn't know or remember. All that is in the kits is a bottle of quick detail and a bar of clay. Spray the quick detail on the (clean) car and run the clay bar over that. You will know if you need more quick detail if the clay bar starts to stick to the car. I used roughly half the bottle (maybe a little less) on the car.
Fold the claybar over often, go slow, and DO NOT DROP THE CLAY BAR ON THE GROUND. If you hear a slight scratching sound when running the clay bar over the paint stop right away and fold it over so you have a clean portion of the bar. I did the rear and bottom of the sides last since they will generally have the most junk on them. Just got done with the coat of wax on the A4 and she is ready for summer. Tomorrow is the R32's turn :D

Curious. Does it work on the chrome badges? If not, ideas on something else?

claying the whole car is a pretty long process but definitely well worth it.
one major rule of thumb is to make sure to AT LEAST wash your car again after you clay it. The clay bar removes built up wash residue and sealant, leaving your cars paint job open to the elements. You need to get another layer down on your car to protect the paint. Whenever I clay my car I always make sure I have time to wax it directly after.
