EDIT: I may be able to buy these wheels from this guy. I would be going from 18" to 17", but they have a nice lip and look like more my style and a better offset than mine. He's in MI so I would just have to meet him a little past chicago probably.
Opinions?
I like the Borbets better than the wheels you currently have. I think the E's fit the car better. Go for it. :tu:

I agree, I like the borbets too, 17's look awesome if you have the right ride height

Ride height? :D I need a set of stairs to hop in right now
His tires have 30% tread and mine are practically new continentals with a "V" divercional tread pattern.... and he's going to 18"... Hmmmmm
Should I just trade him straight up, or try to get $100 outta him?

As much as I know I sound like the vortex forums, I think you would need to be plenty low to have those look good. Think about it, if you already think you drive a 4x4 with 18's, it will get even worse with the 17's. If a set of coils is in your future, go with the 17's for sure they are fricken sweet. Otherwise stick with the 18's. Don't feel bad though, i'm in 4x4 mode too.:D Some roads in Dubuque are absolutely terrible. Just my two cents. Happy birthday btw! :beerglass:
If you use the correct tire sizes, changing wheel diameter should not change the overall height of the car. When you increase the diameter of the wheel, you decrease the height of the sidewall to compensate.
I say get the 17s and trade him straight up. :tu:

Yes my car will go low this summer. The timing is, however, whatever comes first will happen first. I'll just have to drive the backroads unilt I go low :o
I have another car I'm making payments on as well as my gti (really sucks), but it's getting sold soon and then the crazy car spending will commence. I plan on buying a suspension and a honda cbr 600 when I get sell the one car.

Yeah, you're right DSV. I was thinking there would be more of a gap with the 17's, which would make it "look" like it rode higher. But yeah, just increase the sidewall height. :dunno:
17's it is! As far as asking for some cash, what's it gonna hurt to try?!!

Okay, new deal. 2 wheels have damage. One with curb rash that he says is "minor" and one has a bend in the lip, however with this damage he says it does not shake/vibrate down the road. He was quoted for $85 to fix the damage at a local wheel shop. He's sending me some pics of the damage which I will post... the GOOD news is he wants $500 for a set of 17" Borbet's Also he's by Detroit, MI and we can meet half way.
Have you guys ever had wheel lips repaired? The lip is already polished...
I'm torn because I want different wheels but can't tell if it's just the impulsive buyer in me that wants new wheels...
Here's his new post about the wheels:
yea i have had a thread or 2 about these up for sale but i was gonna keep them and later paint black. 2 wheels need help, 1 has bend in it, i will post pics later when stops raining outside. a place in detroit says they can do a full redo for 85bux. the other wheel that needs attention has pretty minor curbage on very edge of lip. i never notice a vibration or anything while going down the road. the wheel appears to be bent on just the lip. the centercap on that wheel is there just cracked and little piece of it missing. the tires on these are BFG gforce sports and have about 50% tread at most. will need to be replaced soon. they are 205/40/17's. i was going to buy tires this weekend, but good friend is parting out his car so im picking up his wheels. so im just gonna take hit and sell these now. 500 + shipping sounds fair. buyer pays all shipping costs so i will ship anywhere. lets get these outta here seems i may pick my new wheels up very soon. so these will be sittin around. thanx now some pics
